Our partner Colleen Gildernew today spoke at an event hosted by NUIG and organized by Women in Law on careers in the criminal justice system. She presented on life as a criminal defence lawyer and the presenting issues that currently arise in this area of law.

I’ll tell you genuinely what our judges and lawyers know.
Our prison system is broken with overcrowding and a massive lack of rehabilitative supports.
Our probation service is seriously challenged in being able to offer proper post release support to avoid the cycle continuing.
Our community care system around addiction and mental health provision is truly broken.
This is a dangerous cocktail of failures. It fails offenders and especially victims and society generally.
