Blanket statements about AI being universally bad are ableist. We should, of course, be mindful about how we use AI and it is without a doubt being used in unethical ways, but AI is also essential to accessibility. It is necessary for tech such as screen readers, dictation software, editing software, communication software, home assistants, and more. We can fight back against unethical applications of AI while recognizing the value that this tech has to the disabled community.
A permission structure has been set up where disabled people have to request access, accommodation, civil rights and justice.
This ableist permission structure ensures that a nondisabled majority serve as the gatekeepers of the rights of and justice for disabled people.
A core tenet of ableism is that nondisabled people believe that disabled people are inferior and need to be controlled.
Such control is devaluing and dehumanizing.
It corrodes the humanity of disabled people.

It was wonderful touring St. Mary’s University this week.
Alberta’s system of post-secondary education offers students many choices and unique experiences.
With an average class size of 25, St. Mary’s provides an engaging and personalized academic pathway for students at their historic Calgary campus.
The PWHL is proud to support Nursey Night, an initiative led by Sarah Nurse presented by Rogers & in support of Black Girl Hockey Club! 🫶
Starting February 16th, they'll be bringing girls from the Black Girl Hockey Club community to select PWHL Toronto home and away games to cheer on the team and hang out with Nurse after the game.
Nursey Night is a way to introduce more young girls to our incredible sport and help make hockey a more inclusive space. For more information and to sign up, visit https://t.co/5Be6TWNC9t
This decision has stripped clubs of a powerful community outreach tool and removed meaningful support for Special Initiatives, all to protect a select few who do not want to answer any questions about their choices. I hope the NHL reconsiders in order to remain a leader in DEI.
A couple of Christmas favourites! Thank you to these two amazing artists @jannarden@danjlevy for inspiring me to continue to bring my whole self to all that I’m doing in this world. #livingwithdyslexia
I think they should auction off the right to shave Mr Friedman’s beard for charity. I think Brian Burke or Wayne Gretzky should bid and shear him! #FriedgeHNIC
