College counselor at Downtown Magnets High School who occasionally works privately to help students go to their best choice school. Married with one son.
@akilbello Lots of middle class families with kids in large public schools, even highly regarded ones, feelike they have to hire a private counselor. The counselor to student ratio makes extended individual help pretty much impossible. They are not paying for or getting that level of help.
@LAUSDSup@LASchools@TheLeague_LA @LAUSDHEP I love these events, but did you know that Downtown Magnets is still waiting for approval from LAUSD to have a prom at all? Please help them, it’s the middle of March already! 😩
@JonBoeckenstedt 99% of the rising seniors at my magnet school were not able to take the PSAT or SAT or ACT at all. To punish them for that is completely unfair.
@JonBoyd11@JonBoeckenstedt Sorry, this article is leaving out a lot of important facts. If you say dropping the SAT hurts low income first gen students of color, you haven’t spent three decades in LAUSD like I have. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
@JonBoeckenstedt Verification is a continual nightmare for my first gen very low income students. Reform is badly needed. Since there’re about to screw everybody over with the change from EFC to SAI, this is the least they can do.
@ReachHigher I wasn’t able to get the hashtag in the description, so that’s why I tweeted my project with the hashtags. I’m really stressed out that I won’t get funded and I’ll have nothing for the kids. 😢
