Delighted with the talk of a Harry Clarke museum for Dublin. Beyond stained glass, he was a fantastic illustrator, including for work by Poe.
This illustration, The Last Hour of the Night, shows the realities of Dublin in 1922. Destroyed landmarks and a rickety tenement block.
That sprint finish! 🔥
Sophie O’Sullivan 🇮🇪 leads an Irish 1-2 in the 1500m and wins Ireland’s first gold medal in European U23 Championships! 🥇
And a lifetime best of 4:07.18 as well! 💫

We're all familiar with the Motte and Bailey.
Nick Shackel described and named it in a 2005 paper entitled "The Vacuity of Postmodernist Methodology".
But did you know he also named four other rhetorical maneuvers?
Let's go through them!
@Redeyes1878@BelTel @SteveBakerHW Unfortunately this is the result of the self fulfilling prophecy of NI party politics existing wholly outside of UK party politics. The UK government is the Tories, NI constituents have had a century to engage with them; scorn them they scorn you.
@CapelLofft Hard to classify saying “one of the main benefits of organised religion is the strengthening and maintaining of community bonds through weekly social gatherings” as sneering & elitist.
Most don’t go to church for the praying bit, they go for the talking outside afterwards bit.
@tomaspueyo 2. Sabine Hossenfelder’s little pop science video looked at this last year;
Pumped hydro is the best but there’s nowhere to put it…
Other options are either more expensive, inefficient or higher environmental footprint.
@DrAaronEdwards Boris making promises from Downing St is one thing but when’s the last time a Tory MP (the ones with actual power) was ✊ on doors in Belfast making promises before an election?
When’s the last time an MP from NI sat on government the front benches?
@DrAaronEdwards The greatest failure (and a significant factor here) of unionist parties is that they have completely isolated their constituents from mainstream UK politics. The Tories and Labour are the ones in control of the purse strings and over a century they will prioritise investment 1/2
@DrAaronEdwards and resources where they will get votes in return. NI is the only place in the democratic world where the ruling parties have absolutely no votes. If that remains NI in its current state can never develop. It’s against any parties own interest to throw money but get no votes.
@dmcbfs Whoever runs a government decides where the money goes, and the money goes where it will win the most seats next election.
If you want a factor in why NI is in an economic hole ask how many of the cabinet ministers have been from NI in the last century…..
@dmcbfs NI can never develop with the current setup because the people have no representation by the parties who actually call the shots; Tories and Labour.
This is the actual advantage of a UI. Ironically the PUL will be a block with clout in Dublin rather than irrelevant backbench MPs
