#OnThisDay 1920 The Connaught Rangers mutinied over the British Army fighting in Ireland. 14 were sentenced to death but only one sentence was carried out, that of James Daly (Front right). He was the last soldier in the British Army to be executed for mutiny. #Ireland#History
A towering mushroom cloud rose 200 feet over the Four Courts. Historian Calton Younger identified three explosions: "two beneath the Records Office at about 2.15 [pm] and another at the back of the building at about 5 o'clock".

However, a study of the battle concluded that the explosion was caused by fires ignited by the shelling of the Four Courts, which eventually reached two truck loads of gelignite in the munitions factory.

#OnThisDay 1922 Owen MacMahon, his six sons & a family friend were shot in their home in Belfast by Ulster Specials. Six of the men died, including Owen (50)& his 15 year old son Gerard. 12 year old Michael hid under a couch & lived. Nobody was ever prosecuted.

#OTD 5 Feb 1921 John "Shankers" Ryan, a Military Policeman & top British informer, was executed by Michael Collins’ Squad.
He is believed to have informed on Dick McKee & Peadar Clancy on the eve of Bloody Sunday in Nov 1920.

Becky Cooper, Shankers’ sister was a well known madam in the red light district of "the Monto" in Dublin, a lot of British soldiers called to her establishments for servicing, and this is where they could also gather intelligence on the IRA.
