Today we celebrate the feast of St. Edmund Arrowsmith who born in Haydock in 1585, was ordained at Douai and began his work in Lancashire, in the north of our Diocese. He was arrested in 1628, imprisoned and martyred at Lancaster. His hand is preserved in Ashton in Makerfield.

Today marks the beginning of the Season of Creation, established by Patriarch Bartholemew and Pope Francis. Let us care for creation as God's gift.

Tomorrow is the Feast of St Edmund Arrowsmith. Mass is at St. Patrick's church at 9.15am with the staff of our three wonderful primary schools, St. Patrick's, St. Malachy's and St. Edmund's. All welcome. The readings for tomorrow are 1 Corinthians 2:10-16 Luke 4:31-37

Logic time - assisted dying will be delivered by private providers. Private firms thrive by expansion. Safeguards won't stop that. Meanwhile palliative care will continue to rely on charity shops?
