Mental health/well-being are pretty terrible in academia (especially in doctoral students) and there are almost no studies investigating interventions for academics. Self-compassion is a short-term resource for better emotional regulation.🧵1/n
The issue with depression as a disorder is we tell people it’s a “chemical imbalance” when: they can’t make ends meet, they’re in a toxic relationship, or they were severely abused as a child.
Depression is a response.
Usually to survival mode.
