Mesa prevailed in a shootout in Spearfish on Saturday afternoon (11/1/25), beating BHSU 45-38.
Mesa’s R-Jr QB Cole Hansen looked like a surgeon on the field as he carved up the BHSU secondary completing 20 of 24 pass attempts (83.33%) for 291 yards and 2 touchdowns. With his dual threat abilities, Hansen also gained 49 yards with his legs and ran in for a 3rd touchdown on the day.
RB Brandon Belgrave wasn’t going to let Hansen and the receiving core have all the fun. On 10 carries, Belgrave gained 117 yards and scored 2 touchdowns.
The Mavericks’ defense delivered in crunch time. With approximately 6:30 remaining in the 4th quarter, BHSU faced a crucial 4th and 3 near midfield. Mesa’s Jake Sinz and Parker Cunningham combined to make a huge tackle for no gain, forcing a turnover on downs.
