The July 27 storms brought devastating damage across our service area, including neighborhoods hit by seven confirmed tornadoes. Right now, a workforce of more than 3,400 people — including crews from utilities across the country — is continuing to work around the clock to restore power safely and as quickly as possible.

ComEd’s Director of Regional Electrical Operations, Eze, shares more about our Mobile Command Center units that are stationed in and near the hardest-hit communities, like Homewood, helping us coordinate crews and resources right where they're needed most.

⚠️ In order to expedite an emergent repair to the system and restore customers, ComEd is working with IDOT and local police agencies to shut down RT 83 in the vicinity of Bluff Road to RT 171 from 1:00 PM - 2:00PM. We have restored power to more than 99% of the 530,000 customers affected by severe weather and multiple tornadoes that swept through our service territory. Our crews mobilized roughly 3,400 workers, who have been working day and night since Monday afternoon to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

We’re grateful to the field crews and support teams who worked around the clock this week to repair damage and restore service, and we thank our customers for their continued patience.

We’re also providing additional support and resources to communities that remain affected by the storm.

Scattered rain showers are developing across our service territory, and we are closely monitoring weather conditions to assess any potential impacts to ongoing restoration efforts. The work is not done, and we will not stop until all customers are restored.

Thank you for reaching out. Nested Outages are the result of additional damage that remains somewhere else along an electric circuit or line after a larger issue has been resolved. This can cause an outage to be reported as restored, when in fact, an outage remains. A nested outage can include equipment failure right at the home such as a blown fuse or a tree hanging on the home’s power line.

We may not be aware of all nested outages, so it is important that the customers report all outages. In this situation, repair work may need to be completed at more than one location. Please report the new outage at https://t.co/Mur6TaMpAr.

More than half a million customers lost power across northern Illinois after Monday's severe storms and confirmed tornadoes. We've restored power to more than 85% of affected customers in roughly 36 hours, but we know this is tough for people who are still waiting for service to be restored.

Some of our hardest-hit communities to the south include, but are not limited to, Crete, Matteson, Country Club Hills, University Park, Homewood, Harvey and Oak Lawn. The National Weather Service has confirmed 4 tornadoes and pockets of straight line wind gusts that contributed to widespread damage.

Our crews remain on-site around the clock making repairs, rebuilding infrastructure damaged or destroyed by severe storms and restoring power as safely and quickly as possible.
