Today, a man I’ve known for decades plopped down at my table in the coffee shop on his way out. After some chit chat, and talk about a challenge he was facing, he said “I just don’t know what we’re going to do, and how we’re going to make it” referring to he and his same age, 70 year old wife.
I said “Mark, I’ll tell you what you’re going to do. You’re going to do exactly what you’ve done every other time in your life, when you thought “I just don’t know what we’re going to do. You’re going to get through it. When the day comes that there’s no way to get through it, it won’t much matter anymore. The show will be just about over.”
After taking a moment to process what I had just said, the distress slid off his face, and he smiled. “You’re right, Jack. You’re right. Thank you!”and he got up and left.
Sometimes, people just need a reminder.
