A well deserved 🌟First Place🌟 for Tomlinscote in the Outcomes Category of The Real Schools Guide (Surrey) and an overall rating of 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Congratulations to all staff and pupils!
Can’t speak for other schools or kids...the main disadvantage or ‘gap’ I’m seeing with teens and distance learning is those who rely on the structure of school to make them do *any* work and those who can make themselves work or have adults at home helping to hold them to account
Student: You know coronavirus was made by the Chinese to kill us all though don't you miss.
Me: No that isn't true.
Student: It is miss - just google it and you'll see.🤦♀️
One for the 'don't know why we bother with teaching knowledge when you can Google it' crowd. #cogscisci
@RogersHistory That sounds awful. I must be one of the lucky ones. I feel so supported and valued. I know I'm accountable for the science results but it's never made to feel like a stick to beat me with. My team are lovely!! Deep dives sound fair enough really. My smile is genuine! Love my job!
@cogscisci We made video feedback of our mocks using explain everything. Takes a while but a great resource once done. You can live model answers and point out common pitfalls etc. Students can fast forward if they got the question right! #cogscisci
@cogscisci We had whole school CPD on methods for assessing whole class understanding - it was quite useful a surprising number of methods. I’m very old school whiteboards, questioning, pair share that’s about it!
@MrTSci409@cogscisci I also like the idea of practice rather than improvement. Much of the time I am encouraged to get students to improve work where we should really be talking about additional practice.
@cogscisci I always find giving feedback on generic skills such as graph drawing quite straightforward, but find it much harder when you have to drill down individual layers of hierarchical knowledge to find where problems / misconceptions are

#CogSciSciChat next instalment will be on Tuesday 11th Feb from 8pm-9pm. Pls RT!
@MrTSci409 has handed over the hosting controls to @DWalkerdine for a discussion on types of #feedback & what affects its quality.
Feedback is one of the most powerful tools at our disposal. So...
Simple and clear: five questioning strategies. Hands up; cold call; choral response; turn to your partner (with a neat signal); mini whiteboards. #MichaelaScience - great intro from @oliviaparisdyer
Superbly impressed to see Flo using the visualiser to live model and question about straw blowing and collage work in Y7 art today. Great practice. Students so engaged. Very impressive @i2iPartnership.
