“I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.
“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” ~Gandalf J.R.R. Tolkien

Changes the Rays made to Freddy Peralta pitching after trading for him, per @jorgecastillo
- Exclusively pitching out of the stretch
- Moved to 3rd base side of rubber
- Widened his stance
- Sped up his delivery
- Gave him a drill package to incorporate into his preparation to generate more strength from his legs
- Instructed him to throw more changeups
Peralta allowed three runs in 34 innings -- good for a 0.79 ERA -- over his final six regular-season starts and he was named the American League Pitcher of the Month for September

I would like Texan McConaughey sit in the car with a woman who is bleeding out in a hospital parking lot because she can’t get a life saving medical procedure because men have decided she can’t control her own body. Please?
We're back. Sorry for the wait.
There is a lot to unpack, so I decided it was best to focus on why there's more space dedicated to manga compared to Western comics in bookstores like B&N as opposed to sales simply bc that's a separate & more involved discussion. 🧵
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.
Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country.
Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.
Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve.
In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota.
The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.
David Rubín is on my short list of most underappreciated artists working in comics today. The way he makes every page feels like its in motion, and the way he bends bodies, perspective and panel layouts to make a story feel like it's exploding in your hands.
KRISTI NOEM: I'm confident Ilhan Omar will finally be held accountable for her crimes?
BENNY JOHNSON: What are those crimes?
KRISTI NOEM: When people apply to come to this country, it voids or cancels out their citizenship

BLOODLINES • Chapter 1 • In pictures
1. In the days following the amputation of my large intestine, my weight began to plummet. I would ultimately lose a total of 60 lbs during the two weeks following the surgery. If you zoom in, you can see the top of my first ostomy bag creeping up over the sheets.
2. A shot of my abdomen after the reconnection/take down surgery or anastomosis, in which my ostomy bag was removed and what was left of my digestive tract was reconnected.
3. An example of the multitude of skin conditions I was plagued with during the seven years I was sick. My skin, an immune organ, was stricken with just about every condition known to man, usually in combination.
