It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically.
Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country.
Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case.
Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve.
In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota.
The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.
England has been in the news cycle quite a bit but in terms of raw actual damage France has endured far far more. Nothing seems to be standing in the way either. Bleak.
I don’t think these books represent the most advanced thought on the online right …Evola and Guenon are especially kind of kooky. That said these as any writings beyond NRO and First Things columns will pass through Joel’s mind like prostie urine through a sieve
Floyd's death was legitimately tragic in a classic American sense. He was in many ways a victim of corrupt policies that intersected to end his life.
he had gotten clean, was working out again and working, when Covid lockdowns put him out of a job. This photo is from his job as a nightclub doorman. he was well liked and said to be a good worker.
he loses his job, gets back on Fent, which is only in the country due to open borders anyway, somehow gets a fake $20, and the full force of the cops come out over something the Fed does as PUBLIC POLICY.
the Federal Reserve debases and manipulates currency as policy. George was just trying to buy a snack with a fake $20, which is only a crime because the Fed needs to send a message to anybody else moving in on printing money. Nobody arrested Yellen for doing worse by a few trillion.
guy was old stock. family has probably been here for 400 years. and he's dead because of open border policies that allowed a virus to freely come into the USA, drugs to freely flow into the country, and policies that led to him losing his job and ultimately his life.
RIP George. See you at the corner store on the other side.
Post Script - the pregnant woman he robbed... was an illegal from South America lmao
Thank you to everyone who stood with me over the years. It’s been a scary journey but I have always been grounded in my work and ability to provide exemplary service to my constituents. Trump and his administration have been after me since I arrived in Congress. I have always stood up to him and that will never change. The pedophile protector will never silence me.
It's always fun seeing one of these guys pretend to be deep empaths or whatever and then you click on his profile and it's ALL irony dirtbag leftist cumtown humor shit
Une première historique au Luxembourg !
Félicitations à Ana Correia, du parti de gauche déi Lénk, qui devient la première femme noire à siéger au Parlement luxembourgeois !
The Right won't go anywhere until it tackles the issue of Christian groups being one of, if not the largest funders & organizers of mass migration in the West.
I've never read an account of India that wasn't like this. Even the British, who attempted to elevate them to sapience, thought they were much worse than Africans and noted that at the very least Africans value hygiene, the Indian does not.
Just read some of the stuff Marco Polo wrote about the places he visited in india and the way he keeps circling back to how dirty and shameless everything was
The most bleak outcome of the second Trump admin is not war with Iran or anything like that, it's that the GOP triples down on its bullshit and chokes. Not much has changed amongst these idiots and they're clearly just waiting out the Trump term so they can go business as usual.
