There is a crucial difference between compassion & agreement with others' untenable views. We must set examples to teach our children compassion for those who are different while at the same time teaching them to stand up for what they believe. Imitation is how they learn best.
Once friends & family members could hold differing political views & remain close. Now those differences often engender hatred, disrupted relationships, even violence. When we reject people because they don't share our views we impoverish ourselves & tear apart the social fabric.
Since so many assume that every #BlackLivesMatter supporter also supports ANTIFA & burning down businesses... is it fair for me to assume that every member of the opposition supports the KKK, Neo-Nazis, the Confederacy, & police brutality against innocents?
Policies are important, and you should fight to convince others of what you believe,
but treating those on the other side with courtesy is always more important convincing someone you’re right.
If you find it difficult or impossible to have a cordial political conversation with a loved one with whom you disagree,
good chance you’re in a toxic echo chamber that is fueling hatred for the other side, while only affirming your worldview.
Fear and anxiety are sky-high right now in America. Obviously this has a lot to do with the pandemic. However, fear was rising fast even before the coronavirus. This is creating misery and conflict. How can we deal with it? (1/5)
@HuxleyBlair Anyone can have a platform, and it is possible to use that platform for good! So that's cool. The algorithm rewards engagement, so the more we engage with positive accounts, the better our experience with social media will be.
Our mission is focused on online interaction, but politics certainly play a role in that. If political cooperation is your thing, we're proud to point you towards a webinar put on by our friends at @part_our.

@NeverDotard@PeteButtigieg Regardless of personal politics, I think we can all agree that pragmatic intelligence is something both sides could use a little more of right now! 🙃
Bad news for politicians trying to polarize us: Americans are basically united on coronavirus issues. There may be a cultural dust-up but no culture war.
If we are truly committed to creating a better society, we should not put our ideological opponents in a box that they can't escape from.
If you want change, then let people change. Do not assume they are inherently terrible people.

Our biggest error as a society today is thinking that if someone doesn’t share your opinion then they are full of hate and are therefore racist, sexist, intolerant, etc.
That is not true and it does not create good dialogue or help promote changes.
