The joke in the newsroom, acceptable only because its subject’s monstrousness was unquestionable, went as follows: What were Robert Maxwell’s last words? Rose-blub.

Brad Lander’s stunt was reminiscent of the self-humiliation ritual performed by Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna. In July, Khanna’s vehicle was temporarily stopped by the IDF in a military zone. Khanna had been trying to provoke settler violence, failed, and his companion released video showing that Khanna’s story about being detained was a fairytale.

The main point is that Obama has Jimmy Carter Syndrome. Carter held two beliefs about Israeli-Palestinian peace: first, that Israel doesn’t want it; second, that ultimately a peace deal is about Jimmy Carter, not Israel or the Palestinians. So he spent much of his long post-presidency crusading against the Jewish state.

The U.S. is at war with Iran. Perhaps members of the administration would reject that terminology in order to preserve the president’s freedom of action regarding congressional oversight, but it is the reality of the situation. Some of Iran’s militias regularly fire on U.S. positions from outside Iran, killing Americans. Is it Barrack’s position that these militias aren’t America’s problem?

Riots in which some hoist the Palestinian flag around monuments while others deface symbols of France such as the bust of Marianne produce a curious inversion. One can’t help but remember that these folks are the most likely to accuse Jews of dual loyalty. @SethAMandel

Here’s the Hollywood happy ending: An independent distributor called Ketchup Entertainment—a name I did not make up—bought the film for $50 million, released it at the end of August, and the movie became an end-of-summer hit. The Ketchup Entertainment team executed a perfect one-two: They released a big success into theaters, and they proved that studio executives and their financial predictions are almost always wrong.

The Saudis are currently treating their Houthi problem as an episode of Ted Lasso, hoping it can be solved by the mysterious appearance of a natural-born striker. And while the world would be a better place with more Ted Lassos in it, we’re not quite there yet. @SethAMandel
