President Donald Trump announced he would posthumously award Welles Crowther, BC ’99, with the Presidential Medal of Freedom—one of the nation’s highest civilian honors—during a campaign rally in New York Friday evening.
Crowther was a volunteer firefighter. On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, he was working as an equities trader in the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
“We are approaching the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, a dark day that will live in infamy,” Trump said. “We are posthumously awarding Welles the Presidential Medal of Freedom—which is the highest award outside of the Congressional Medal of Honor.”
