This exhibit was brought to reality through collaboration with the women of Whitworth, the Georgia Museum of Art (@GMOA), CGA alumni, and the Department of Corrections. CGA is grateful to have been involved in its creation and is thrilled that it has received this recognition.
We are excited to share that the “Art is a Form of Freedom” exhibit, envisioned by Dr. Caroline Young, has won the prestigious Silver Medal award from the @SEMC2 Conference. The SEMC Exhibition Competition showcases the best in the profession.

Click below to learn more about the context of Georgia’s prison admission rate. We’re grateful to Niels Armbruster, an Emory student, for creating this map, and David Evans, CGA Alumnus, for embedding the map onto our website.

A Georgia County Heatmap has been added to our website, revealing the prison admission rate in Georgia counties from 2006 to 2022. As illustrated, counties that score poorly in proportion of people admitted to prison have a high level of residents who are below the poverty line.
The power of the liberal arts and its ability to restore hope and dignity in the age of mass incarceration is evident in this 2022 documentary by Hal Jacobs. You can access the full documentary using the link below:

Burruss Correctional honored the CGA volunteers at a joyful dinner this past weekend. At this event, we celebrated the beloved community to which we are grateful to belong! Thank you to Warden Spann, DW Green, Professor Hope Hilton, Ms. Tebought, and the remarkable Burruss men.
Our work would not be possible without the generosity shown by supporters like you, and we are excited to continue assisting our scholars in #movingforward and #expandingopportunities.
Thank you to everyone who donated to our Matching Campaign! With your support, we raised $20,044, which helps us carry out the important work of providing higher education to incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals.
In a recent @canopyatl article, our Alumni Outreach Coordinator Dominique Harris was one of four formerly incarcerated people interviewed to share his truth about whether he will ever be considered a citizen again. You can read the article below:
