Poster color, fabric whitener, detergent, laundry soapnut, and sulphuric acid, these were among the toxic ingredients used to produce 40 quintals of fake paneer daily at a factory in Gorakhpur.

It was then supplied to hundreds of street food vendors and small eateries across Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Sant Kabir Nagar, and Deoria.

The factory owner, Khalid, sold this fake paneer at ₹160 per kg, earning a profit of ₹35 per kg, amounting to ₹1.4 lakh tax free income per day.

This isn’t an isolated case. Paneer is among the most adulterated food items in India, and most street vendors and small eateries rely on such cheap, fake paneer to cut costs.
