Great news: @mbauwens himself is going to attend our X space this week!

to accommodate his schedule, we postponed the space to tomorrow, 10 am CEST.

Tune in for updates on Michel's health, his ongoing work, summer plans and the bigger picture - to initiate an orderly, generational transfer of responsibilities in the coming years in order to strengthen our movement and lessen the burden carried individually.

We’re tremendously sad to hear that Michel Bauwens has suffered a serious health crisis. Michel has been one of the central thinkers and organizers of the commons movement for decades, and his work has shaped many of us deeply.

This also creates real uncertainty for the first week of Valley of the Commons, where Michel was meant to lead the “Return of the Commons” course.

Rather than pretending everything is unchanged, we’ll take a few days to re-coordinate with care.

In this light, we’re extending the Early Bird deadline until Wednesday, 20 May, and will host an X Space at 4pm CEST that day:

Please join us to hear where things stand, reflect on Michel’s work, and discuss how the wider commons community can help.

This may include support for Michel’s recovery and medical costs, but also an “intellectual fundraiser”: inviting his collaborators, co-authors, and fellow commoners to help continue his work toward the Return of the Commons — during the first week of Valley of the Commons and beyond.

For such experiments, the @CommonsHubAT carries both symbolic significance and serious infrastructure for peer production value to express itself. It is a convivial, semi-off-grid site in the Austrian Alps, with workshop spaces, a conference room, maker equipment, a 3D printer, laser cutter, book binder, sound system, projector, hiking trails and riverside nearby. There is also a self-made wood-fired hot tub lovingly referred to as the Liquidity Pool, and, thanks to the MVP commoners of the annual Hack the Hub event, a newly built outdoor sauna. The Hub’s longer horizon is a regenerative ecovillage. This matters because WORLDPLAY is not only about imagining alternative infrastructures, but takes place inside one that is itself being built – one island in an archipelago of alternative spaces popping up like mushrooms.
