OST programs provide working parents with peace of mind knowing their children are safe and positively engaged while they work. Many parents report that the afterschool and summer programs their kids love also help them keep their jobs 🧵4/4
89% of DC parents support expanding public investments for out-of-school-time programs, but the District currently is only able to meet the needs of roughly 40% of families, with the greatest disparities in Wards 7 and 8. 🧵3/4
Afterschool & summer programs are crucial to young people’s growth & development. OST programs promote academic achievement, school attendance, social-emotional skills, mental health & career exploration and readiness. And give kids something to look forward to every day! 🧵2/4
We urge the @councilofdc to fund and pass the Universal Out-of-School-Time Amendment Act of 2023. It would expand #WashingtonDC’s capacity to meet OST programming needs for all DC children and youth by 2035. There is currently a deficit of more than 50,000 seats. 🧵1/4
