The Mounted Unit alone has a proposed budget of $5,952,600. The 22 city-funded agencies that operate daytime drop-ins, which are used by thousands of homeless people and provide hot meals, have been allocated <$5 million. 32 drop-ins, including mine, have no city funding at all.
Now imagine if we had a massive team of mental health and addiction professionals handling these.
While I appreciate other areas need spending, imagine if we took 500M of the police budget and devoted it to professionals and supports to prevent these calls in the first place.

The #Barrie police budget in 2014 was $46.4M. That's a $21M (45%) increase to the police in 10 years, nearly double what it would have gone up had they kept strictly to inflation.
