President Jeffrey R. Holland, President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was laid to rest in his hometown of St. George, Utah, on January 1, 2026.
The First Presidency of the Church of Jesus Christ and many members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles traveled to the cemetery to participate in the graveside service along with family and friends.

I first became acquainted with Jeffrey R. Holland roughly 40 years ago—long before I could have imagined the sacred privilege of serving with him in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
From the very beginning, President @HollandJeffreyR did what he seemed born to do—he wrapped Melanie and me in a circle of friendship so warm and genuine that we felt like his dearest companions.
One memory from the early 2000s shines brightly, when then-Elder Holland was assigned to minister in Europe while I served as a new General Authority Seventy in the Europe Central Area Presidency.
Together we climbed the storied steps of Mars’ Hill in Athens, Greece, and there, overlooking the city’s ancient stones, we read aloud the Apostle Paul’s bold testimony to Greek philosophers about the true nature of God.
Siting on the rocks of that hill beside a modern Apostle of Jesus Christ stirred my soul. Yet in the decades following, I learned that no matter where I was with Jeffrey R. Holland, that same spirit burned bright.
President Holland loved deeply, lifted powerfully, and inspired completely. He was indeed a living emissary of the Savior.
Perhaps nowhere was this more evident than in November 2024 in the Dominican Republic. I was honored to join President Holland as he ministered to the Saints there. It was his first international assignment after a near-death experience, when he said he was “somewhere with a foot in another world” for four weeks.
To hear him testify of that experience and plead with all of us to pray with greater faith and believe in miracles was unforgettable—a moment etched in my soul.
President Holland’s example has stirred my heart and shaped my discipleship in ways beyond words.
Like the Apostle Paul, President Holland was one of the greatest defenders and advocates for Jesus Christ ever to walk this earth. I will dearly miss my friend and mentor.
