@thetecnition These are not a chemically sharpened hook @thetecnition and as such need to be hand sharpened with a file to get them ready to fish. Anglers prefer different approaches to sharpening these depending on the fishing situation and many anglers prefer to sharpen themselves.

@david_papps55@VicFisheries Actually Gamefishing has a very long tradition in Australia with catch and release and the support of tagging programs. There was no mention of it as it’s not actually relevant to the post. The fact JB is still fishing and enjoying the sport at 86 is the point.
@david_papps55@VicFisheries@david_papps55 The fish pictured has been tagged to help scientists better understand the species. It was safely returned to the water after the pic. That said, there are many advantages to the ethical, legal and sustainable taking of a fish for the table.
