@AmericanAir So my recommendation - don't fly on any @AmericanAir flight unless it falls under EU or UK flight regulations. They cut corners on purpose because they know consumers can't do anything about it.
An update on my flights with @AmericanAir - unsurprisingly, the airline continued to jerk me around the whole way and never made up for it in any fashion! I would encourage other potential customers to avoid them.
I'm hardly surprised that @AmericanAir cancelled my flight and moved me onto one that gets me in 5 hours late for a weekend event - should have guessed they'd take advantage of a ticket *I* can't cancel or modify without paying. Shamelessly exploitative.
@AmericanAir I also want to point out - none of this happens on the flights that fall under EU regulations. I'm flying the same carriers, but when they're being punished for jerking me around -- suddenly they can function! Miraculous!
@AmericanAir Throughout, the communication was terrible. Getting bumped into a middle seat with no hand luggage for a 7-hour red-eye is something that happens, but AA almost went out of their way to make things harder on both customers and their own staff.
@AmericanAir I got into the UK four hours after I was supposed to and was shattered for work the next day. I wrote to customer service for any kind of refund to my flight - which was, again, late ONLY because of their maintenance problem.
@AmericanAir I've sent it - there was another flight change, too, but that one I can handle. This one undermines the reason I'm even flying in from the UK.
