365 DAYS OF SERVICE | MY PROJECTS AS ASG, GREAT IFE STUDENTS’ UNION

As we bow out after 365 days, I am compelled, for posterity and reference, to document some projects I was privileged to lead or contribute to as Assistant Secretary-General.

While the office is largely administrative and Secretariat-based, we went beyond the desk to deliver meaningful interventions:

• Free Post-UTME Tutorials: In collaboration with the Office of the VP, we taught over 7,000 OAU aspirants for the 2024/25 admission session.

• Free/Subsidised Printing: We provided printing support for newly admitted students, helping many freshers reduce the financial burden of registration.

• Secretariat Tour: We introduced fresh students to the Union, its structures and their stake in students’ leadership, while creating opportunities to interact with Union officers, committees and commissions.

• Secretariat Workshop: In collaboration with JCIN OAU, we trained campus secretaries and student leaders on Digital Secretariat management and minute writing.

• July 10 Commemoration 2026: I served as Chairman of the Planning Committee for the annual commemoration of those who sacrificed their lives for the Great Ife struggle.

• Brandentity 2.0: We created a platform to recognise, celebrate and support student entrepreneurs and brand owners through pitching, visibility and awards.

Beyond these were several collective achievements, interventions and online initiatives aimed at protecting the Union and advancing students’ interests.

I do not present these as the achievements of one man. They were products of teamwork, collaboration and sacrifice.

After 365 days, I leave with one satisfaction:

I served.

Not perfectly, but sincerely.

A formal demand has now been issued over this publication.

I have never been a member of The Alpha Club, never held any position within it, and have never submitted myself to its constitution or disciplinary authority. Yet, my name was publicly associated with the Club and I was allegedly “dismissed” for “incompetence” and “gross indiscipline.”

How does an organisation dismiss someone who was never its member?

This is not about seeking attention or engaging in social media drama. It is about my name, my reputation and the serious implications of publishing demonstrably false allegations against me.

My solicitors have therefore demanded an immediate retraction, an unequivocal public apology, removal of the publication from all platforms, an undertaking against further publication, and compensation.

The Club has three days to do the needful, failing which further legal action will be commenced without further notice.

I will not sit back and watch a falsehood become a permanent record simply because it was published publicly.

The facts will speak for themselves.

My own leader, it is what it is.
I only intended to join last year, before the inducted day, I indicated I was no longer interested and I was not subsequently inducted.

Ever since then, never heard anything from them, never participated in their activities just to see overnight flyer of dismissal all around.

Since morning, I have seen people online posting pictures of themselves from when they believed in God and when they didn’t.

Well, I have to say that believing in God or not doesn’t determine how you look. At most, it may affect how you dress if you are religious.

I was an agnostic and atheist from 2021 until January 2023, though I never really made a buzz about it online. In 2023, I reverted to Islam, and since then, I have been striving to become a better Muslim.

Interestingly, not much has changed about my appearance, except that I have obviously grown older and, hopefully, more mature.
