My wife is going through the early days of pregnancy, a difficult time that every mother knows. But, God willing, these hard days will pass, and she will regain her strength for our unborn child, for my daughter Rafif, and for me.

To my little one, I promise you: I will not let you experience what your sister Rafif has lived through — the fear, the terror, and the difficult life we have endured and continue to endure every single day.

I will do everything in my power to make sure you come into this world in a safe place, surrounded by a healthy and secure environment, with the life every child deserves.

This story reminds us of the thousands of stories lived by the people of Gaza...

How many mothers remained trapped beneath the rubble, holding their children while waiting for someone to rescue them?
How many fathers kept calling out for help?
How many families spent hours and even days under collapsed buildings, yet rescue teams could not reach them because of the ongoing bombardment and the danger of the areas, until they were reduced to nothing but bones.

This photo was taken in Venezuela, where, two weeks after the earthquake, a mother and her three children were found alive.

This mother had nothing but her love and determination. She breastfed her children to keep them alive until rescuers finally reached them.

Some survival stories are beyond human explanation, but God's power is above all things. If God has decreed that someone will live, neither rubble nor darkness can stand in the way.

Glory be to the One who says, "Be," and it is.
