Israel Closes Only West Bank Crossing with Jordan
Tel Aviv has further isolated Palestinians in the West Bank by closing the Palestinian enclaves’ only border crossing with Jordan. The border crossing is a crucial aid lifeline for Gaza.
On Tuesday, Israel announced the complete closure of the Allenby Bridge Crossing, also known as the King Hussein Bridge. Last week, A Jordanian aid truck driver opened fire on Israeli soldiers manning the checkpoint, killing two.
The crossing key for aid getting from the warehouse in Jordan to Gaza. The near-total Israeli siege of Gaza has led to the starvation deaths of hundreds of Palestinians, and hundreds of thousands are now facing famine.
While Israel has conducted a genocidal onslaught in Gaza, it has also ramped up military operations in the West Bank. About 1,000 Palestinians, including 200 children, have been killed by the IDF and settlers in the West Bank since October 7, 2023.
Additionally, tens of thousands of Palestinians have been driven out of their homes. The IDF has conducted home demolitions in the West Bank, with some high-ranking Israeli officials calling for the operations to mirror the destruction in Gaza.
Tel Aviv’s decision to close the border comes as it is moving closer to annexing portions of the Palestinian territory.
Maduro Sent Letter to Trump Offering Talks to Prevent Conflict
@LibertarianInst
A top Venezuelan official confirmed that President Nicolas Maduro sent a letter to President Donald Trump earlier this month offering talks to prevent a war.
The letter was published on Vice President Delcy Rodríguez’s Telegram account on Monday, and dated September 5. Maduro says in the letter that Trump has been led to believe “fake news” about Venezuela’s ties to drug trafficking and Caracas’ willingness to work with the Trump administration on returning Venezuelan migrants from the US.
The letter includes a map from a UN study that shows 87% of drugs from South America are trafficked to the Western US via the Pacific Ocean. Only seven percent of South American drugs make it into the US via the Caribbean.
The letter concludes with Maduro offering to engage in direct talks with Trump’s envoy Richard Grenell. In February, Grenell traveled to Venezuela and secured the release of six American prisoners after meeting with Maduro.
Following the meeting with Grenell, Secretary of State Marco Rubio began ramping up sanctions on Venezuela and seizing Maduro’s plane. In July, the State Department designated two Venezuelan cartels as narco-terrorist organizations. Trump has authorized military action against designated narco-terrorist organizations.
Trump and Rubio have claimed that Maduro is the leader of multiple narco-terrorist cartels and have offered a $50 million bounty on the Venezuelan President. The US intelligence community assessed that Maduro is not the leader of Tren de Aragua.
Washington also accuses Maduro of leading the Cartel de los Soles. However, a US-funded NGO has said there is little evidence that the Venezuelan government is the leader of the gang.
The letter from Maduro was sent to Trump in the days following a US strike on a ship in the Caribbean Sea that had left from Venezuela. The President claimed the attack killed 11 members of a narco-terrorist cartel that was attempting to bring drugs into the US. Trump has not offered evidence for the assertion.
The US has conducted two attacks on ships in the Caribbean after the letter was delivered to Trump.
In the post that included the letter, Rodríguez said, “The military threat against Venezuela, the Caribbean, and South America must cease, and the proclamation of a Zone of Peace must be respected.”
Putin Offers To Extend New START Treaty for One Year
@DecampDave
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday offered the US a one-year extension of New START, the last remaining nuclear arms control treaty between the US and Russia, which is set to expire in February 2026.
The New START treaty limits the number of nuclear warheads and delivery systems the two powers can deploy, and Putin said that Russia would abide by those limits if the US reciprocates. If the treaty expires without an extension or replacement, there will no longer be any constraints on the deployment of US and Russian nuclear weapons.
“The New START Treaty will expire on February 5, 2026, signaling the imminent end of the last international accord directly limiting nuclear missile capabilities. A complete renunciation of this treaty’s legacy would, from many points, be a grave and short-sighted mistake,” Putin said ahead of a meeting of his Security Council, according to RT.
Founder of Al-Qaeda in Syria Allowed in NYC By Trump Administration
@Judgenap .com
The founder of al-Qaeda in Syria, Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, seized power in Damascus last year and was allowed to attend the UN summit in New York City by the Donald Trump administration. In an event on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly summit, Jolani called for removing sanctions from Syria.
Jolani, who now goes by Ahmed al-Sharaa, took control of Damascus late last year. Since seizing power, his forces have conducted multiple massacres targeting ethnic minorities. While Jolani and his backers now portray him as the reformed moderate al-Sharaa, he has staffed his government with jihadists from the terrorist groups he led.
Still, Washington has embraced Jolani and removed some sanctions from Syria. In his remarks at the UN, the Syrian leader asked for the rest of the sanctions to be dropped. In a sit-down with retired General David Petraeus, he said, “Syria has a diverse workforce. They love to work, it’s in its genes. So don’t be worried, just lift the sanctions and you will see the results.”
The sanctions on Syria were imposed to facilitate regime change in Damascus. Washington sought to overthrow the government of Bashar al-Assad because of his ties with Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
However, overthrowing Assad has led to chaos in Syria. Jolani imposed Shira Law and oversaw ethnic violence. Additionally, Israel has dropped hundreds of bombs on Syria and invaded a large part of the country’s south.
Trump, who first met with Jolani in May, hopes he can push Damascus into the Abraham Accords. The accords are a series of agreements from Trump’s first administration that established official ties between four Muslim countries and Israel. The US bribed the states into the Abraham agreement with weapon sales and agreed to lift sanctions.
Tel Aviv is demanding that Damascus allow Israel to use Syrian airspace to strike Iran and demilitarize the country south of the capital city.
Israeli Foreign Ministry Says It Won’t Allow Aid Flotilla To Break Blockade on Gaza
@DecampDave
The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Monday issued a threat to the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is attempting to break Israel’s starvation siege on Gaza, warning that it wouldn’t allow the boats to breach the Israeli blockade.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry has also labeled the flotilla as “Hamas,” suggesting that Israel may target the boats with military strikes. Earlier this month, two of the boats came under drone attack while they were in port in Tunisia, causing fires and damage but no injuries to the crew.
“Statement Regarding the Hamas Flotilla (‘Sumud’): This flotilla, organized by Hamas, is intended to serve Hamas,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry wrote on X. “Israel will not allow vessels to enter an active combat zone and will not allow the breach of a lawful naval blockade.”
Israeli Forces Kill at Least 61 Palestinians in Gaza Over 24 Hours
@DecampDave
Gaza’s Health Ministry said on Monday that Israeli attacks killed at least 61 Palestinians and wounded 220 over the previous 24-hour period as the IDF continues its heavy assault on Gaza City and attacks elsewhere in the Strip.
“A number of victims are still under the rubble and in the streets, where ambulance and civil defense crews are unable to reach them at this time,” the Health Ministry wrote on Telegram.
The ministry also announced that two hospitals in Gaza City — the al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital and Gaza City’s Eye Hospital — were put out of service due to Israeli attacks in the area.
Netanyahu: Idea of Withdrawing From Syria Buffer Zone Is a ‘Joke’
@jasonditz
While claiming talks with the Syrian government were progressing, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed the idea of withdrawing from any of the territory Israel has captured during its invasion of Syria that started in December 2024.
Netanyahu said the idea of withdrawing from the buffer zone, which was meant to be a demilitarized zone since 1974, was “a joke.” Israeli officials have repeatedly insisted territory taken in the buffer zone, including Mount Hermon, would be kept.
Though Netanyahu seemed a bit more upbeat about the talks, recently Israeli officials have suggested they had stalled, and were pushing a deal that would create a new buffer zone deeper into Syria while forcing Syria to make numerous other concessions.
Barrack Says Lebanon Not Taking ‘Concrete Action’ on Hezbollah, Israel Won’t Withdraw
@jasonditz
In a Sunday interview, US envoy Tom Barrack accused Lebanon of not taking “concrete actions” to disarm Hezbollah, saying that all they do is talk, and that Israel will absolutely not withdraw from locations inside southern Lebanon that they’ve occupied since last year’s invasion.
During the interview, Barrack claimed Hezbollah was rebuilding its strength. Declaring both Hezbollah and Iran as enemies, he further declared “we need to cut off the heads of these snakes and stop their funding.”
Despite that, Barrack also said that the US would not directly attack Hezbollah, “neither with our own forces nor through CENTCOM.” Since CENTCOM is the US military’s arm in the region, it’s not clear why he mentioned them separately.
@AnaKasparian@OwenShroyer1776@Antiwarcom The people that work there are absolute sweethearts too, which is incredible given their line of work. You’d think they’d be jaded as hell, but nope, they keep on keeping on!
