The team in Mexico distributed 450 ceramic water filters to homes and schools to ensure access to clean water. Topics such as the environmental health condition of the communities, the importance of clean water, and filter function and maintenance were taught through workshops.
The programs in Mexico and Guatemala each purchased oxygen tanks and oxygen concentrators to provide emergency treatment to those suffering from COVID-19. Scarce even in the local hospitals, this resource is a lifesaver for hundreds of patients.
Practitioners have been delivering two-month supplies of medicines to prevent interruptions in treatments, particularly for the elderly community members and those with chronic illnesses, in the face of public transportation shut-downs and travel risks for the health-compromised.
With an average cost of $3 for each consult (consult, lab tests, medicines, procedures) compared to an average of $20 in a government clinic and many times more in private clinics, care is affordable. Community members saved $2,890,000 in medical expenses last year alone.
The pandemic caused a redesign of teaching clinics triage processes to ensure the safety of the patients and practitioners. The clinics have been a lifeline, as many government-run hospitals closed their doors to non-COVID patients.
This month, as we launch our 50th anniversary year, we are looking back and sharing some of our highlights from 2021. Midwives and health promoter practitioners organized to be included as front line workers and got the vaccine when it was first provided in Guatemala.
The wait is over! You can now preview our Auction catalog, including over 80 unique items, many donated by YOU, our Concern community.
Also, the last day to purchase your Benefactor ticket is this Friday, October 8.
