Marie Lukas, 32, was a securities broker working on the 103rd floor of the North Tower on September 11, 2001 when Flight 11 was deliberately crashed into her building.

This was sadly not her first experience with Islamic terrorists attacking her workplace; she was also in the North Tower in 1993. Her dad, FDNY firefighter Frank Lukas (Engine 226) helped her evacuate that day.

On 9/11, however, she was well above the impact zone and all escape routes were cut off. Marie, a Cantor Fitzgerald employee, made two desperate calls to her father Frank, now retired. First she told him that a plane had struck and all exits were blocked.

Then she placed a second call, asking along with her terrified colleagues for advice as their office filled with smoke and conditions deteriorated. They asked Frank Lukas if they should break a window to try and get air, he told them no, that sudden draft of oxygen could intensify the fire and engulf them.

Marie's last words to her dad were acknowledging his advice, "OK Dad."

Marie and all of her colleagues were murdered that day by Muslim terrorists Mohamed Atta, Abdulaziz al-Omari, Satam al-Suqami, Wail al-Shehri and Waleed al-Shehri as well as those who planned these barbaric attacks. Never Forget.

This is Edna Cintron, seen in one of the most haunting photographs from 9/11. She was spotted waving for help from the hole torn into the North Tower after the first plane hit.
For many, this image put a human face to the tragedy, proof that people were still alive inside, trapped in the smoke and fire. No one knows exactly how long she survived up there, but her presence in that moment has stayed with the world for decades.
The attacks on September 11th claimed nearly 3,000 lives and changed the course of history in an instant. Photos like this remind us that behind the numbers were people, ordinary lives cut short, and faces that should never be forgotten.

Melissa Doi is one of those 9/11 stories that's doubly tragic because she almost escaped.

She was 32, an only child, and was a senior manager for a company on the 83rd floor of the South Tower when the attacks began.

Doi, along with some colleagues initially evacuated to well below the impact zone following the first plane hitting the North Tower.

But just then, the tragic all clear announcement was made asking employees to go back to work. Doi took the elevator back up moments before Flight 175's wing crashed through her office.

Excerpts from her emergency call are below, you've probably heard it before. In the recording you hear her mention hearing voices of people suddenly arriving; it's speculated that may have been Battalion Chief Orio Palmer, see below.

Melissa Doi lived with her mother and was able to give the dispatcher her mother's contact information as well as a final message, "tell her that she was the best mother a person could have, and that I love her with all my heart and soul, and that I'll see her in the next world."

Port Authority Police Officer Christopher Amoroso, already bleeding from a head injury caused by falling debris, guides Suman Dhamija away from the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.

After getting her to safety, he turned around and went back in to help others.

Minutes later, he perished when the South Tower collapsed.

For two decades, Suman was unidentified until she came forward.

She has said he told her, “Ma’am, relax. We are here to help.” She believes she would not have made it without him.

Scott Michael Johnson was a 26 year old securities analyst working on the 89th floor of the South Tower on September 11, 2001.

An avid traveller, his remains (in the form of a bone fragment) weren't identified until 2018 through newer DNA techniques. He was the 1642th victim identified from the World Trade Center site; roughly 40% of victims remain unidentified due to the devastation of the attacks.

Scott Michael Johnson was from New Jersey and was an employee of Keefe, Bruyette and Woods.
