Although they both sound like children, their speech patterns are not exactly the same. Joy Boy speaks in a rougher, more casual manner, while Imu sounds more polite and well brought up.🥰

Joy Boy says, “Ōtō seyo,” which means “Respond” or “Come in.” In Japanese, this expression normally sounds formal and rather adult-like. However, Oda writes it entirely in hiragana instead of using kanji. This allows Japanese readers to sense that the speaker (Joy Boy) is actually a child trying to use grown-up language.💡
