We have agreed to write and document the origins of the Soweto Marathon as one of South Africa’s most iconic races that celebrates the history and spirit of Soweto while promoting social cohesion, active lifestyles and economic activity.

As an iconic township event and a driver of sport tourism in Gauteng, we cannot ignore the challenges the Marathon faces and are therefore committing to resolve all the bottlenecks they face.

After receiving news of his ill health, we paid a courtesy visit to Coach Mashaba and are pleased to report that he is in high spirits and remains positive.

We wish him a speedy recovery and urge members of the public to keep him in their prayers. We also caution against extortionists who are fraudulently using his name to solicit money from the public.

A formal statement will be issued with the correct details for Good Samaritans who may wish to offer support and assistance.
