I can hear the ol' boys at coffee row now:
๐งโ๐พ๐ด: Ahhh the rain'll help more than the hail will hurt
What a storm that was! #plant26#albertaag#abstorm
Strong #G3#Aurora storm watch issued for this Thursday and Friday! Solid chance for aurora viewing across Canada, outside of cities and pending cloud cover. Last time a G3 or higher was issued was March 20-21, 2026 @weathernetwork
As we head into hail season, here's a refresher on what that the details of that hail warning (pea size, golfball size, etc) might mean for the risk of damage to your property.
What a difference...5 days make! It's been an adventure & we are far from done for a special travel segment coming soon to @weathernetwork and our great friends at @ColletteTravel
A prolonged period of heavy rainfall is set to continue in Alberta, with some regions expected to receive over 100 mm.
This raises the potential for flooding through midweek.

Avoiding exposure to air pollution doesn't just protect your lungs. It also protects your brain, a @McMasterU professor says. Research shows it's possible to measure early declines in brain health caused by #pollution. https://t.co/aXVNyyBJ4I

ECCC confirms SEVEN landspout tornadoes in Alberta between May 17 and 18!
Tornadoes form in many ways, and these kind are in a class of their own.
Unlike other higher profile landspout tornadoes in Alberta in recent years, the following ingredients are present with these:
- Relatively light surface winds
- Weak surface convergence
- Weak CAPE
- Dry ground
- Dry boundary layer
- Steep low level lapse rates
This is effectively an environment supportive of dust devils, though these are clearly much larger. You'll likely never see a funnel cloud aloft with this kind, but rather a tall, slender dust tube. There are often convective clouds nearby producing virga.
The location of their formation is even more "random" and hard to predict than landspouts that form along convergence boundaries. #abstorm @NTP_Reports

Watch out for further storm risk tomorrow on the prairies
