That’s a wrap on #ISMPPEurope 2025! 🎉
Key takeaways:
📌 AI integration in publications requires transparency, integrity, and author engagement.
📌 Patient involvement in scientific exchange should go beyond tokenism—meaningful participation is key.
📌 The traditional manuscript still holds value, but alternative formats like PLSs and videos are gaining traction.
The team at CMC Connect had a fantastic time engaging in insightful discussions, sharing expertise, and connecting with colleagues across the industry. From exploring AI’s role in publication development to championing patient collaboration and debating the future of scientific manuscripts, this year’s meeting sparked thought-provoking conversations on the evolving landscape of medical communications.

💡How can we successfully integrate AI in publication development while ensuring author engagement, transparency, and integrity?
In the plenary session "How Can We Collaborate With Authors to Integrate AI in Publication Development?" Nina, James Dathan (AstraZeneca) and Stephanie Preuss (Springer Nature) shared perspectives on how stakeholders can work together to integrate AI responsibly.
An audience poll revealed a wide range of author attitudes toward #GenerativeAI—from curiosity, excitement and enthusiasm to scepticism, caution, and concern. Encouraging authors to be part of this conversation will be key to successful #Collaboration.
How have the authors you’ve spoken with reacted to #GenAI in publications?

📢 Is the traditional #Manuscript still the gold standard for #ScientificPublishing, or is it time for change?
At #ISMPPEurope, we attended "The Shape of Things to Come? Beyond the Traditional Manuscript (A Balloon Debate)", where five speakers championed alternative formats—AI-supported, PLSs, podcasts, videos, and conventional manuscripts.
With audio and video manuscripts now indexed on PubMed, the debate explored whether new formats better suit the digital age. After three rounds of audience voting, the conventional manuscript remained the top choice for scientific communication, with PLSs and videos following closely behind.
What’s your take—should we stick to tradition or embrace #Innovation?

AI is transforming the #Pharma, #BioTech, and #DeviceIndustries, offering new ways to streamline publication development.💡
At #ISMPPEurope, Eoin attended "A Discussion on Use Cases and the Adoption of AI Within a Pharmaceutical, Biotech or Device Company," where experts explored how AI is being integrated into workflows, from literature analysis to document generation.
As Eoin highlighted, using AI to create content like PLSs and paper summaries frees up time for strategy-focused tasks. But to harness AI effectively, we must give users the opportunity to experiment with low-risk data and refine their approach.
How do you see AI shaping the future of MedComms?

On Day 2 of #ISMPPEurope, Simon Stones delivered a thought-provoking session on going beyond traditional patient authorship by fostering deeper collaboration with patients in #ScientificCongresses.
As Eoin highlighted, we need to move past tokenism and involve patients as co-authors and active contributors—not just attendees. When patients lead discussions, the impact of #ScientificExchange grows stronger for everyone.
This session explored the value of patient involvement in data dissemination, the challenges stakeholders face, and actionable ways to overcome barriers. It’s time to embrace meaningful partnerships with patients to drive progress in medical communications💡
What steps can we take to ensure patient voices are truly heard?

At the #ISMPPEurope meeting, Eoin attended a fascinating workshop on implementing AI in #MedicalCommunications, diving into the evolving landscape of #GenerativeAI and its practical applications.💡
Key takeaways? Providing #MedicalWriters with opportunities to practice prompting outside of project work is crucial as we explore how AI can support use cases and assess its effectiveness. But most importantly, this isn’t just about technology—it’s about people.
Adopting generative AI in #MedComms requires human oversight to ensure its use remains responsible, ethical, and impactful. 🌍
What are your thoughts on balancing innovation and integrity in AI adoption?
