When a crisis hits, are women in the room where decisions are made?
In 2021, CODE partnered with UN Women and the British High Commission on a project in Kaduna State built around that question.
Watch the project summary in 90 seconds.

Zero-dose. Under-immunized. Outreach session. What do these terms actually mean? 💉
Behind every immunization target are terms that help us understand who is being reached, who is being missed, and where action is still needed.
In this quick explainer, we break down some of the key terms guiding our work through the Sokoto Tracking and Accountability for Equitable Immunization Project (S-TRACE).

When traditional and religious leaders speak, communities listen. For routine immunization, that trust can help reach children who might otherwise be missed.
Connected Development [CODE], represented by Programs Manager ABDULAZEEZ HUSSAINI, joined the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development and the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency for a stakeholder engagement focused on strengthening traditional and religious leadership in routine immunization.
Chaired by His Highness Aliyu Attahiru Galadanci, Galadiman Gari Sokoto, representing His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, the meeting brought together District Heads, religious leaders, government representatives and development partners under the S-TRACE Project.
The engagement focusing on strengthening the role of trusted community leaders in identifying zero-dose children, mobilising caregivers, addressing vaccine hesitancy and non-compliance, and connecting families to immunization services across the seven S-TRACE LGAs.
With support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, CODE and its partners are strengthening those connections one community and one child at a time.

What would help Nigerian businesses move from selling products to making them and owning the innovation behind them?
So, what is the biggest barrier to that shift?

What happens when your supplier becomes your competitor?
This week on #TheDevelopmentGap, we ask how competition can deliver affordable products while helping Nigerian businesses grow.
How much value stays in the local economy?

Lower prices matter to consumers. Opportunities to grow matter to Nigerian businesses too.
Investment should strengthen local suppliers, technical skills and production through training, technology transfer, local sourcing and joint manufacturing.

"Sixty-six years after independence, what has changed is mostly the form these problems take, not their substance."
In her latest piece, Connected Development [CODE]’s Program Associate, Amarachi Ogbonna, Ph.D., traces the patterns Nigeria has carried since 1960, from ethnic division and military rule to the oil dependency and corruption that still shape the country today, and asks whether the next chapter will finally break the cycle.

Every number represents a child who could have been left behind.
In September, #STRACESokoto teams identified 2,941 zero-dose and 2,284 under-immunized children.
So far:
💉 1,862 zero-dose children vaccinated
💉 1,427 under-immunized children vaccinated

Tracking public funds is only the first step. What happens when citizens uncover the gaps?
Connected Development (CODE), represented by our Senior Data Analyst, Gimba Mohammed, joined the workshop on Strengthening Anti-Corruption Capacity and Asset Tracing Frameworks in Nigeria, organised by HEDA Resource Centre in partnership with PPLAAF in Abuja.
Gimba delivered a goodwill message and joined the first technical panel, sharing lessons from Follow the Money on how citizens can use budgets, procurement data and community monitoring to track public spending, verify project delivery and build evidence for accountability.
Community evidence must lead to institutional action. When citizens uncover gaps, there must be systems that listen, investigate and act.

"A disconnect exits between actual community requirements and the priorities chosen for government funding and project commission. Government decision-making must include checking back with the public to verify if policies are effective" - @IamNankpak, Communication Associate/Media Relations @Connected_dev
As Nigeria approaches 66, whose stories remain untold, and what questions still demand answers?
Today, I’ll join the @WSoyinkaCentre for a conversation, building on the ground work we do at @Connected_dev.

When public systems fail, communities carry the consequences. Meaningful accountability must address that harm.
At @Connected_dev, we empower marginalised communities to track public resources, influence decisions and demand better services. The people affected by public service failures must be central to shaping solutions.
To strengthen this approach, three members of our team participated in a two-day Restorative Justice training organised by @ServeleadHuman, with support from the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding.
Facilitated by Jeffrey Weisberg, the training explored questions central to our work: What happened? Who was affected? What do they need? How can we repair the harm and prevent it from happening again?
These lessons can strengthen how we listen to communities, respond to grievances and facilitate dialogue with public institutions. Across our work in health, education and public accountability, they can help us turn community concerns into corrective action that addresses people’s needs and rebuilds trust.

Nigeria provides the clearest illustration of the financing imbalance at present. Between 2015 and 2021, Nigeria received $4.928 billion for 828 international climate-related projects. That represented average annual financing of about $704 million, according to the climate-finance assessment released by @Connected_Dev and @Oxfam

It’s on us to follow the mineral, follow the money and follow the beneficiary.
So, what should authorities show the public beyond arrests to prove they are tackling illegal mining?

The miner gets caught. Who gets paid? ⛏️🔍
This week on #TheDevelopmentGap, we look beyond the mining pit.
We ask: Who finances extraction? Who buys the minerals? Who pockets the proceeds? Because accountability cannot stop at the person holding the shovel.

#TheDevelopmentGap #FollowTheMoney
Arrest figures alone cannot tell us whether the networks profiting from illegal mining have been disrupted.
Trace the financiers, buyers and beneficiaries. Make mining records accessible. Support legitimate artisanal miners to work safely within regulated markets.

“Trust the process.” But what makes the process trustworthy? 🗳️👀
Yesterday, we put that question on the table at the first Off The Record with CODE: “Can Citizens Trust the 2027 Ballot?”
Collins Nnabuife highlighted a clear starting point: INEC must follow its guidelines and the laws governing elections, because citizens need to see the rules respected and commitments kept.
For us at CODE, our concerns matter and so does your voice. Keep asking questions, checking information, and demanding accountability.
What’s ONE action that would strengthen your trust in the 2027 ballot?
