Leadership training must translate into sustained participation in the decisions that shape our communities.
Our Founder, @HamzyCODE , reinforced this message as a guest speaker at the Social Innovation and Leadership Bootcamp (SILB Africa 5.0) in Asaba, Delta State. The 2026 edition, themed “The Architects of Change,” brought together young people from across Nigeria and other African countries to learn, connect and prepare for leadership responsibilities.
Reflecting on the Save Bagega story, Hamzy highlighted how citizen-led advocacy can draw attention to neglected communities and drive change. His reflections offered a practical lesson for delegates: meaningful leadership begins with recognising a problem, organising around it and staying engaged until action follows.
At Connected Development, we believe young people must have the knowledge, opportunities and support to influence public decisions. This conviction continues to guide our work with citizens and marginalised communities.

What does the media have to do with climate justice? And how can communities hold governments accountable for climate commitments and public spending?
Through the Community Media Collaboration for Climate Justice (CMCCJ) project, Connected Development (CODE) worked with communities, civil society organisations, and media practitioners in Rivers and Akwa Ibom States to bring climate conversations closer to the people most affected.
🎥 Watch this 90-second throwback as we revisit how CMCCJ connected media, communities, and accountability to advance climate justice.

In her latest piece for.@Connected_dev, Amina Onayi Lawal writes on how the FCT teachers' strike has disrupted CODE's work with civic clubs reaching over 800 secondary school students, and asks who truly answers when institutional failure keeps children out of the classroom.

The Nigerian government must go beyond rescue numbers, regularly reporting on arrests, prosecutions, and structural measures taken to protect high-risk routes. Because lasting security means Nigerians can travel, study, work, and serve their country without fearing they may be next.

“Everyone has been released.”
The words families pray to hear. Seven days after 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members were kidnapped while travelling to their orientation camps, they regained their freedom. That safe return was deeply worth celebrating.

But as we explore this week on The Development Gap, rescuing kidnapping victims is not the same as ending kidnapping. The blindspot of our security framework is measuring success solely by who comes home.
When the rescue operation ends, critical questions remain: Were those responsible identified and prosecuted? Were the criminal networks and their financing disrupted? What has changed to ensure the same road, the same criminal network, and the same failures do not put another group of travelers at risk?

That election video looks convincing. But is it real? 👀🗳️
On Off The Record with CODE, journalist Collins Nnabuife discusses how AI-generated videos and misleading election content can shape what citizens believe.
Before you share, pause. Check the source, date, and context. A convincing video is not enough to establish the truth.

A girl’s future should not be determined by where she is born, the circumstances of her family, or the opportunities denied to her.
Yet across Nigeria, too many girls still face barriers to education, including poverty, child marriage, insecurity, and inadequate learning facilities. For many, staying in school remains a daily struggle.
At Connected Development (CODE), we believe that keeping girls in school requires more than promises. It requires deliberate investment, accountable institutions, and communities empowered to demand better.
As we mark the International Day of the Girl Child, we remind governments and stakeholders that commitments to girls’ education must be reflected in public budgets, functional classrooms, safe learning environments, and measurable outcomes.
Every girl deserves more than the promise of education. She deserves the opportunity to learn, stay in school, and thrive.
Happy International Day of the Girl Child!

When a crisis hits, are women in the room where decisions are made?
In 2021, CODE partnered with UN Women and the British High Commission on a project in Kaduna State built around that question.

Zero-dose. Under-immunized. Outreach session. What do these terms actually mean? 💉
Behind every immunization target are terms that help us understand who is being reached, who is being missed, and where action is still needed.
In this quick explainer, we break down some of the key terms guiding our work through the Sokoto Tracking and Accountability for Equitable Immunization Project (S-TRACE).

When traditional and religious leaders speak, communities listen. For routine immunization, that trust can help reach children who might otherwise be missed.
Connected Development [CODE], represented by Programs Manager ABDULAZEEZ HUSSAINI, joined the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development and the Sokoto State Primary Health Care Development Agency for a stakeholder engagement focused on strengthening traditional and religious leadership in routine immunization.
Chaired by His Highness Aliyu Attahiru Galadanci, Galadiman Gari Sokoto, representing His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, the meeting brought together District Heads, religious leaders, government representatives and development partners under the S-TRACE Project.
The engagement focusing on strengthening the role of trusted community leaders in identifying zero-dose children, mobilising caregivers, addressing vaccine hesitancy and non-compliance, and connecting families to immunization services across the seven S-TRACE LGAs.
With support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, CODE and its partners are strengthening those connections one community and one child at a time.

What would help Nigerian businesses move from selling products to making them and owning the innovation behind them?

What happens when your supplier becomes your competitor?
This week on #TheDevelopmentGap, we ask how competition can deliver affordable products while helping Nigerian businesses grow.
How much value stays in the local economy?

Lower prices matter to consumers. Opportunities to grow matter to Nigerian businesses too.
Investment should strengthen local suppliers, technical skills and production through training, technology transfer, local sourcing and joint manufacturing.
