Fantastic to see the BSL Bill pass today. @LiamODellUK definitely the reporter with expertise to be there today. Great to see so many people showing their support and loving the feed being filled with so many happy people today because this is definitely the starting point
British Sign Language is a step closer to being officially recognised as a language in England.
An estimated 90,000 deaf people in the UK use it as their first language, and now a new law aims to ensure it is used more widely in society.

@linguistlaura Depending on context ‘ain’t nothin’ could mean I got off lightly with only 15 days and so it’s nothing. ‘Ain’t nothin’ could mean it’s not enough as in the verdict of time. ‘Ain’t nothin could also be someone fronting bravado and so doesn’t bother them. (Midlands, UK)
@katerowley0 Visibility of deaf people and BSL users is great to challenge public preconceptions of deafness. However more hearing people then try and use it on YouTube/ social media when they’re not equipped. There should be qualifications needed before people can teach BSL
@sarahbea89 No. You are still Deaf whether you use voice, speech, sign, wear hearing aids, cochlear implants, enjoy poetry, music, dance, deaf club. It all forms your identity. Be proud 👍
