. In response to your question @boydmyers about what my cattle eat that go into GLC https://t.co/cCj3xISGwD I’ve attached 3 pictures.
1st is dry ddgs or distillers grains. Ddgs are a by product out of the ethanol industry. These are 28% protein and serve as a source of energy and protein for the calf.
2nd are soyhull pellets. These are a by product out of a soybean plant. Before the plant can process the bean for Soyoil and soymeal the hull must be removed. The hulls are then pelletized and sold for feed. Nutritionally they are comparable to the best alfalfa hay you can find. We choose these over hay because of the pellets small size they can be digested more quickly by the calf
3rd is corn silage. We chop about 45 acres of our corn every year and pack it in a pit to remove the air. It ferments and stay fresh as the basis for our feed ration. Silage has been around for generations and is a great cattle feed
I feel that our use of the by products from the ethanol and soy processing plants dispell the idea of the food vs fuel debate. These by products have made life easier and more affordable for every farm and ranch that chooses tho use them. I can’t imagine raising cattle without these tools.
The use of these by products also shows something else to the general public. Sustainability. By using all portions of the kernel or the soybean there is no waste. We’ve started to measure this by calculating our CI score (Carbon Index). I believe the Carbon space will move towards this metric and this is how farmers will be paid for their #sustainable efforts. I envision my CI score on my beef packages at GLC https://t.co/cCj3xISGwD. Instead of packaging just saying “sustainably raised” on it imagine the CI score on the package because of the traceability back the original source. This gives the consumer the ability to choose who and from where there purchases are supporting.
@MaryCKenn@MichaelWSpike Not a house, but a Hot Dish Home! Seems like the type of home decor that every Minnesotan family would have hanging in the kitchen
Lots of people complaining about Iowa bball attendance and since I honestly feel bad I’ll give advice
When ISU has these games against bad teams they do fun events to boost attendance
For example last week they unveiled their Sweet 16 banner pregame. Maybe Iowa could try this?
NEW ODD LOTS:
We finally did a barge episode.
@tracyalloway and I spoke to @ottoscholl, @AntonPosner and Margo Brock, about how a historic Midwest drought is creating a Mississippi river supply chain crisis, affecting the grain trade and other industries https://t.co/MvMNKFM4SS
Buying a barge in St. Louis is like trying to get last-minute tickets to the World Series - it'll cost you 💰
Records continue to be shattered as last week's 2500% ($2.99/bu #soybeans) could soon be old news since the current offer is 3000% ($3.59/bu)
