Here we describe a recent form of gambling promotion that we term “content hijacking”. It’s very present here on X, and involves the assimilation of gambling logos into non-gambling related memes or videos

We (@ConorHeath, @LeonXiaoY, Philip Newall) relayed our findings to the Italian Communications Regulatory Authority.
Good that they are aware of the issue, hopefully the loopholes will be closed soon - though these decoy brands have been used for at least 2-years at this point.
We (@LeonXiaoY@ConorHeath) highlight how Gambling operators are acting against the spirit of Italian law, which aimed to ban all gambling sponsorship in sports
How? They simply add a non-gambling suffix (e.g. .NEWS) to the logo
Will this occur after the UK front of shirt ban?
We (@pnewall@OzWineGuy@ConorHeath) developed an intervention video that increases resistance to the persuasive effects of gambling advertising among 1200 young adults. It was created with the input of experts by experience. Check out our results below!

Last week, we presented Project ACTIVATE at the Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research International Interdisciplinary Colloquium 2024 #HubColloq24, and we won best poster!
A very interesting day filled with valuable talks and presentations!

We have a new blog entry talking about our attendance at The Exchange Event, a Public and Patient Involvement Event hosted by the Advanced Diagnostics and Medical Technologies Research Institute at @SwanseaUni
So nice to hear Andy Przybylski being a much-needed voice of reason on Radio 4 right now. Smartphone bans feel like a powerful solution but they really aren’t, and they’re going to cause a wealth of problems down the line.
Please check out our (@pnewall, @ConorHeath, @MarieOHanrahan) recent study on improving an intervention to increase resistance to gambling advertising, based on focus groups with academics and individuals with lived experience. https://t.co/H5yvwMaxP3

🚨Launching soon! 🚨 Project ACTIVATE aims to assess an app (ACTVet) for the #treatment of #ptsd and #gambling-related harm in armed forces #veterans. Also see our website for more information 👉 https://t.co/muxgSfqjmQ
It is essential that individuals feel in control of their gambling behaviours and PTSD symptoms. ACTVet aims to provide this while in the comfort and safety of their own environment.
Did you know that 4 out of 10 veterans struggle with gambling problems? Did you know that gambling is also related to PTSD? We want to help by developing a phone app that delivers treatment to veterans with PTSD and associated gambling harm.
Stay tuned for updates on the project.
RIP to one of the most influential Psychologists, Daniel Kahneman.
Even with Thinking, Fast and Slow's popularity, he remained open to having his findings challenged.
His commitment to the evolution of psychology serves as a reminder of the importance of intellectual honesty.
Calling all budding game developers!

New paper: Order of first-play in simulated versus monetary gambling
There's a lot of talk about migration from simulated gambling to monetary gambling. This paper looks at what tends to come first, by looking at individual products. Free read:

Our (@ConorHeath, @maira_p_andrade, @pnewall) frequency analysis of in-game football advertising has just been published.
On average, only 1 in 20 gambling and gambling-like logos are subject to the EPL's voluntary ban on shirt-front gambling sponsorship https://t.co/tFBVJ4Jr5i
