"Courage is not about being fearless, it's the ability to feel the fear and not allow it to paralyse you"C.Solomon. What courage looks like to me? One courageous leader courageously taking action. Courage is contagious! @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE#leadership#pdsl
Advice - be yourself, do not try to copy other leaders, authenticity matters as does vulnerability, you can't lead alone, human connection is key. Use mistakes to learn, you will make them, every leader does. @steve_munby leadership is inherently imperfect, be kind to yourself.
"It's important students build their cultural capitals, but not at the cost of believing their own working class cultures are rubbish & unworthy". Class shouldn't be the only identity you leave behind in order to succeed. More in my own memoir below. @AGavrielatos @DianeRavitch
An inspirational episode. My two take home messages were, sometimes leaders or educators need to 'dig for gold' to unlock someones true potential, and to reframe challenges to see the opportunities for personal growth @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE#pdsl#leadership

Our actions can have a huge impact on others. Leaders should listen to all suggestions with an open mind. Even if their idea is not suitable at that time, acknowledge their efforts and ensure they feel listened to. @patriciamannixm @niamhickey#leadership#pdsl@Leaders_SoE
A public/vocal put down and dismissal of a positive suggestion, ensure that the recipient shuts up and may not make another contribution for at least six months. Onlookers who keep their heads down and say nothing, effectively encourage/empower the offender.
Fascinating insight, emphasising how trusting relationships provide the foundations for high performing teams. #pdsl#leadership@niamhickey @patriciamannixm @Leaders_SoE
"Failure to engage in conflict (productive ideological dialogue) is a terrible decision, one that puts our temporary comfort and the avoidance of discomfort ahead of the ultimate goal of the organisation" - Lencioni #pdsl#leadership
This image highlights the importance of listening and also how assumptions can inhibit learning conversations. #pdsl#leadership @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE
I was introduced to the CEDAR and Joe O'Connell frameworks for difficult conversations while training as a Droichead mentor. Below is the Joe O'Connell model which is a useful alternative to the CEDAR framework. @niamhickey @patriciamannixm @Leaders_SoE#pdsl#leadership
Enjoyed listening to episode 2 this week. Particularly Patricia's thoughts around leaders learning to become "comfortable in the uncomfortableness". #leadership#pdsl @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE
Found this Andy Hargreaves quote on coaching very interesting: "A coach was originally a Hungarian conveyance for carrying people from one place to another." Bringing them from where they are to where they want to be. #pdsl#leadership@niamhickey @patriciamannixm @Leaders_SoE
Excited to announce that our introductory episode is now live 📢📢 Available on @anchor and @Spotify

Found this quote from Andy Hargreaves very interesting, it made me reflect on my involvement in the Droichead process in my school. Hopefully I wasn't a tormentor!#pdsl#leadership @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE
Barbara Senior's description of organisational culture as"the way we do things around here" can act as a barrier to progress. Often a new perspective and a change in culture and values is needed in order for progression. #pdsl#leadership @patriciamannixm @niamhickey@Leaders_SoE
Alma Harris stated "Leadership is like air, people often take it for granted but feel its absence immediately and profoundly."
Acknowledge the work of the leaders in your life, they need reassurance too!! #pdsl#leadership@niamhickey @patriciamannixm @Leaders_SoE
Leader should be open-minded and listen to alternative views, rather than considering different opinions as an assault on their own beliefs. #pdsl#leadership@niamhickey@Leaders_SoE @patriciamannixm
Effective leaders encourage and welcome different/contradictory opinions/approaches. They acknowledge and adopt a solution that is better than their own. How isolating/ disempowering is it when the voicing of an alternative point of view is regarded as a declaration of war!!
