There was enough compelling evidence that the court system charged him with drugging, kidnapping and sexual assault. Also pleading guilty to hitting a cop, causing serious injuries, all within 4 years.
@OlimpiTbilisi Why would you support someone who’s ethics and morals are an issue, having multiple criminal offences. The verdict given in the Edward Ekiyor case was problematic. https://t.co/QBhbraTPTo
@NotWatsonClub1@michele__ann@Flexbball They need to learn how the legal system works. Prosecutors only take cases to trial that they believe they can get a conviction. Saying he wasn’t convicted isn’t an excuse. He’s just another Brock Turner that got off because of his athletics. This case went to trial for a reason.
@sharon_zehr@maureensmith232 In 2021 it’s completely disturbing how many gaps and grey areas in the law there are for an accused person to get away with such a crime. Justice Trevor Browns decision demonstrates how a man can basically get away with anything.
GHB is not consent. When someone is drugged, they do not have capacity to provide enthusiastic and ongoing consent. OVS staff present today in support of protest in the R v Ekiyor acquittal. @ Ottawa City Hall https://t.co/vtZbXs6Xia
@XanderAWright@ctvottawa If this is an area of the law that is too grey, then in 2021 it is time that drug facilitated sexual assault is addressed in the law.
@XanderAWright@ctvottawa Thanks for your question! The Attorney General still has the power to step in, which is who we are calling on. He has the ability to ensure this is not a precedent now set for future cases in the criminal code.
How heartwarming it was to see students, survivors, advocates & community members gather in solidarity. One woman isn’t enough. It takes an entire community ❤️Thank you so much to everyone who came today, and to everyone who helped spread awareness #AppealEkiyor#GHBisNotConsent

(TW) She doesn’t remember due to the effects of a date rape drug should not be a defence. We’ve put together a few key messages should you wish to bring a sign! #WeDeservetoFeelSafe#WeBelieveYou#ProtectWomen
