@cutecalicottv The Hyper X Quadcast is NOT it.

My recommendation: Rode Podmic XLR/USB is 150-200. If you can swing a little extra budget, go for the Rode Podmic XLR, 75-100, and the Rode Streamer X Audio Interface, 200.

@JesseCox Do you want to learn why YouTube can never do Content Detection accurately? Or why your password is only safe because "Trust me bro"?

@VALORANTde, are those my only two options? 👀👀

🚨 Announcement: I am looking for 100 channels to implement my 2027 YouTube playbook with!

Today, we officially open up applications for my next Accelerator cohort.

The program behind some of the fastest growing youtube channels in the world.

In October we will take 50-100 creators and give them:

- 8 weeks of intense training (all live with me)
- 30+ hours of material
- Our full playbook to dominate any niche
- Our ideation system for million view videos
- Personalized strategy support to build their plan
- Personalized feedback and execution help

We’ve grown channels from 1k views a video to 500k+

$100/month to $10,000/month (in months)

Had multiple creators post 5m+ videos DURING the cohorts. Even some 10m+.

Look at the endless testimonials on the site (from real channels you can look up haha)

Applications open today (link below).

Apply and if we think we can grow your channel, I’ll reach out personally.

Only about 10% of applications get into the program. We prioritize student results over everything.

It's not affordable for everyone, so I’ll also be giving away a free scholarship (funded by me)!

Just RT and like this post and I’ll pick a winner on Monday.

Can’t wait to see the next group of creators go through our program and dominate 2027. ❤️

[Mrgregles @Mrgregles]

For anyone who is still unsure on why @AitumTV made the move we have to take a free product and make it paid then I would urge you to read this.

I have been extremely transparent here regarding the decisions we made and what forced our action.

My job now on the back of this is to make Aitum and Stream Tools the best it can be for our new paying customers and show them their support and investment in us was not misplaced. Trust is earned and while some people feel our action broke that trust we will be working to show them this wasn't the case and we have creators best interested at heart.

[Barry Eppes @ContentDelta]

@TheRedGear I agree. This would have been my approach, but it is also very hard to look behind closed doors.

Happy with Mr. gregles reply explaining their thoughts that I just retweeted.

[Barry Eppes @ContentDelta]

First, let me preface that I agree with most of what you say. Devs need to get paid for their work and costs need to be covered.

The problem for me is that as a consumer this feels like you are being cheated.

I don't have a problem with people charging for products. Honestly I rather they do for various reasons.

If you, as a company, know that a product is going to have variable costs that scale with the number of users then this should be evaluated at launch. At which point, you either charge from the get go or decide to make it a loss leader.

Building a new offering with their Stream Tools for which they charge is a natural development to bring new scalable features with variable costs, but those are new features that start out as part of a paid package.

The other thing that hit me, as a hobby widget dev, wrong was that there are SO many free alternatives providing the exact same service. @streamerdotbot being one of them.

I respect Aitum and the team behind it a lot, but I feel this was a misstep that has in a very short time burned a lot of goodwill.

[nutty @nuttylmao]

Aitum's multichat feature (which was free) is moving to a monthly subscription, and they are understandably getting backlash for it.

I'd like to offer a different perspective. Yes, ofc everyone hates subscriptions — and it feels bad when something that was provided for free all of a sudden becomes paid. You can call it deceptive, misleading, dishonest, bait-and-switch etc. and I wouldn't exactly blame you for feeling that way.

On the other hand, there's a lot of cost that goes into providing these tools, not just for the time spent creating the tools — there's server costs, distribution, infrastructure, support etc., and these are all ongoing costs that scale as these tools reach a wider audience. Monthly costs typically increase over time too, regardless of audience size.

So devs are stuck in a situation where:
(1) Their monthly costs continually go up
(2) They're never allowed to increase their prices/charge for their work

The reality is the vast majority of streamers don't want to pay for shit, which is fine — this is a hobby for almost all of you, not a job.

But for the devs, this is quite literally their job — and in the streaming space, the majority of the devs making some of the most useful tools are not backed by large corporations. Many are small teams or solo devs, working on niche tools for an extremely limited market size.

As a dev, people always tell me I should get paid for what I do, until I start charging for it — then I get accused of begging for money.

Devs are in a lose lose situation. They either have to charge to keep the lights on, or keep losing money to make people happy. Give them a little bit of grace.

[Barry Eppes @ContentDelta]

Incredibly transparent reply to my questions for @Mrgregles, Head of Product for @AitumTV.

Read this, make up your own mind.

Personally, I understand their decision and despite the initial disappointment and continuing believf that a "Free to Paid" product transition is generally bad, I want to see more of what Aitum can do.

[Mrgregles @Mrgregles]

So initially we had been funding the Multi-chat from our revenue from our only paid product Nexus. But our subscriptions for that took a downturn for a few months, which pushed us into a situation where I actually forfeited my own salary, and so did another member of the management team from Aitum, to keep the multi-chat/activity feed free until subs went back up. Which they didn't at the rate needed.

We also hit another issue, Kick. Their API costs a lot more to interact with and we say a huge amount of extra traffic cost from supporting them. Unlike pretty much all the other companies in the space now, Aitum didn't have millions in funding so we got stuck in a hard position. We didn't have the capital to throw behind a product to give it more runway as free, and we refused to put in ads, so it forced our hand.

So we decided to take a different route. While yes charging sucks we looked at it as a rough change in the beginning to become a better provider for creators in the long run. Which is why we called it Stream Tools. The aim now is low sub cost but we keep building out the product to provide everything that companies like Stream Elements and StreamLabs (and others) do. We launched an overlay/alerts system yesterday along side the new sub pricing and we have updates scheduled throughout the next few months to prove our dedication to all the people who have subbed and supported us.

My personal aim is we provide enough value and more importantly stability, because we won't just run out of money and need to be acquired to keep going, that we become the standard for creators.
We proved ourselves with Vertical so I want to do it again.

Sorry for the paragraph but we promised to be transparent so I hope this helps make as much as possible clear. 😁

[Barry Eppes @ContentDelta]

Thank you for your reply. This clears up a lot of the issues that I had with the change and I really hope it clears things up for other people as well. Your transparency is genuinely appreciated.

Reading the reasoning, I fully admit that I change my stance on this. I hope that people understand the increasing costs and desire to stay independent (Something I personally really value) as reasons.

I hope that the consideration in the future remains that inclusion in the new Stream Tools product requires there to be a continuous operating cost and that you continue producing incredibly good Free assets such as Vertical as well!

[Barry Eppes @ContentDelta]

I fully understand a company needs to charge for their services, but when you take a free product and move it behind a paywall that leaves a very sour taste in the mouths of your customers.

You are giving them a product and then taking it back while they were enjoying it.

[Aitum @AitumTV]

Oh, hi!👋 Today is a busy day at Aitum!

As many of you have seen, our multichat is moving into our new Stream Tools offering, which will be free to all Nexus subscribers, and carry a light subscription for everyone else.

Stream Tools will also come with the beta of our new Alerts feature!🔥

[Barry Eppes @ContentDelta]

First off, I appreciate both your reply and the transparency. I just want to put that out there, because too many companies hide behind the PR words.

I appreciate that this was a hard decision, but it feels (from the outside perspective) that it could have been prevented. I'm not here to prosecute, because that doesn't help anyone but it would be nice to get an understanding from the business perspective.

What are the factors at play that we don't see as consumers that caused the Cost per User to shift so significantly that the product could no longer be supported (as a free product)?
