3-The bullpen is a MAJOR WIP. All 3 losses this year have come from collapses on the back end. Peterson, Pence, Szestowicki, Berkwich, it's hard to know who to trust right now. There's time to figure it out for sure but it needs to be addressed before ACC play rolls around
For the Diamond Heel, their eventful yet ultimately disappointing 2-game tilt with ECU did lead to tell us a lot about the team. Here were my 3 big takeaways:
2- Starting pitching is improved from last year. Aside from Max Carlson's start on opening day, every starter the Heels have thrown out has had really good outings. Bovair and Carlson were exceptional this weekend against a good ECU lineup
The Heels are right on the edge of hosting a regional, which would be so huge for the program and would also achieve Coach Banghart's goal at the beginning of the year. 2 wins this week in Greensboro should be enough to get them over the line
On the Women's side of things, I do think this team is poised for a nice post-season run. They play elite-level defense, and they've got a ton of lineup flexibility, and they have 3-4 players that can get their own shot
The key for them is will be hitting shots, and not getting destroyed inside. The glaring weakness of this team is a legitimate rim protector, Elizabeth Kitley exposed them in a big way last week
RJ Davis in ACC Wins: 16.9 PPG, 51.6 FG%, 44.6 3P%, 1.3 STL, 2.19 AST/TO
RJ Davis is ACC Losses: 13.9 PPG, 34% FG, 21.1 3P%, 0.7 STL, 1.57 AST/TO
As talented as Armando Bacot is, as important as Pete Nance and Leaky Black hitting shots is, RJ Davis is the x-factor
Big test for the Heels this weekend as they play a home-and-home with the 11th-ranked East Carolina Pirates. We'll learn a lot about this team over the course of the next three days, should be a fun weekend.
After dropping the opener, the Diamond Heels have responded well, allowing no more than 2 runs in the 4 wins since. Mac Horvath has had a scolding hot start, drawing 7 walks in the first five games, with all 5 of his hits being for extra-bases
Out of the bullpen Justin Szestowicki, Ben Peterson, and Nelson Berkwich have been the most impressive. Peterson's slider has been one of the most effective on the team and has led him to early success in the closer role
The season gets underway this afternoon at the Bosh at 4 pm. I'll probably be tweeting a lot about this team so stay tuned. Also, follow @UNCAnalytics for some really cool content if you're into that stuff
I am back on Opening Day for the @DiamondHeels. Big expectations this year for the defending ACC champs, who will be led by the three-headed monster on offense of Vance Honeycutt, Alberto Osuna, and Mac Hovarth. But here are 4 other players to keep an eye on this season...
4- Nik Pry. Last year, Davis Palermo was the trusted arm out of the bullpen, this year it will likely be Pry. He's looked great in the offseason, with a wide assortment of offspeed pitches in his arsenal. Also one of the vocal leaders on the team

In my opinion, you can't have both Nance and Black out there at the same time, it clogs the lane for Bacot, who had been silent down the stretch in both Pitt games, the Indiana game, and now this one. It hurts our defense but if you're Hubert Davis you have to try something else
It's officially time to panic about UNC's offense. There needs to be more creativity, confidence, and shot-making when the Tar Heels face an interior disrupter. This problem has to be addressed immediately, the schedule does not get easier #CoopScoops
