1/9. The last 18-hrs have seen headlines appearing in print & online leading on the first paramedic on scene at the Manchester bombing not treating anyone. Many from the pre-hospital & amb world have rightly challenged these headlines, this is exactly what is supposed to happen
THREAD: we need start planning for the recovery of NHS staff right now.
NHS staff are working beyond their limits – have been for weeks and will continue to for weeks. They've been at the limit for a year. What will be the consequences? What can be done?
Please do read. 1/12
Christmas is going to be different this year. The new measures announced today are absolutely the right ones. It is about protecting those we love. Shouting ‘Christmas is cancelled’ is just pathetic! Feel free to stand on an ICU if you are in any doubt @BACCNUK
Earlier this week, our very own superwoman Elaine came out of ICU after a tough 7 weeks. Elaine is a ward clerk @UHSFT and her #UHSFamily were there to congratulate her as she makes her way along the road to recovery ❤️
Whilst crowds gather in street parties and visit the beach over the bank holiday weekend, a friendly reminder that covid ICUs are still a thing and we’d really rather you stayed home #lockdownuk#VEDay2020
@Webb20Richard Would you deactivate the airbags in your modern day car because you didn’t intend to crash? There is a risk of driving and crossing the road, but we have improved patient outcomes through technology. One way we can improve outcomes for cyclists is helmets 🏼♀️
If you’re outside riding your bike on these nice sunny days, maybe with all of your children, could you put a helmet on? Good advice for always, but now especially... we don’t have the ICU capacity for your head injury. Ta.
It’s very easy at the moment to slip into the habit of having a few drinks every evening. Nice though that is, please try and have 3 or 4 days off each week. I don’t want to be seeing y’all in my clinic when the lockdown lifts!😉

“Dear All,
I have just finished a very useful ICU / NHS Nightingale teleconference, the aim of which was to consolidate experiences about CV19 and how best to manage the disease.
Nadia is in her 70’s been in ITU for nearly a week with corona. She sat out for first time yesterday whilst still on NIV! I was privileged enough to help her on her journey to getting back to walking her dog! ❤️ (photo and name with consent) @UHSFT@UHS_CritCare@UHS_Therapy
The nasopharynx goes back, not up.
When you take a nasopharyngeal swab or insert nasogastric tube, NEVER aim upwards towards the brain.
Go LOW and go SLOW.

Mostly deals with constrained resources. Mostly common sense. Key information on changes to major haemorrhage management if blood stocks become low.
Sadly-we will have to talk about #dying with #COVID19 . We need to support our #nhsworkers to have these difficult conversations with compassion and honesty. Thanks to @openchangeuk for this powerful visual which helps start that learning. @zimscotcaroline@SQSFellowship
Sorry for being blunt: maybe you are young and can survive this but what if you get hit by a drunk driver and there’s no ICU bed for you? COVID-19 isn’t the only reason you can end up in hospital and need critical care. #UKlockdown#StayHomeSaveLives
