DCI SENSITIZES RECRUITS ON COUNTERING VIOLENT EXTREMISM
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has today concluded a two-day Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) sensitisation programme for General Service Unit (GSU) recruits at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘B’ Campus.
The sensitisation, conducted by facilitators from the Directorate of CVE, sought to strengthen the recruits’ understanding of emerging terrorism and violent extremism threats, radicalisation processes, and contemporary extremist tactics increasingly driven by technological advancement and online influence.
The training equipped the recruits with practical knowledge and skills aimed at enhancing their capacity to identify, prevent and respond to violent extremism and terrorism-related threats while safeguarding communities from radicalisation and recruitment into extremist networks.
Key areas covered during the programme included radicalisation pathways and recruitment patterns, protective security awareness, identification of suspicious persons and activities, and evolving violent extremist threats in Kenya.
Participants were also sensitised on Kenya’s legal and policy frameworks on countering violent extremism, and the role of the National Police Service in CVE.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Directorate to enhance the preparedness and operational effectiveness of security officers in addressing evolving security threats facing the country.
The DCI reaffirms its commitment to strengthening national security through continuous capacity building, intelligence-led policing, multi-agency collaboration, and community-centred approaches aimed at preventing radicalisation, disrupting extremist networks, and protecting Kenyans from terrorism and violent extremism.

SUSPECTS BEHIND MOTOR VEHICLE AND STOCK THEFT ARRESTED IN NYERI
Detectives have arrested five suspects believed to be members of a notorious, ruthless gang behind motor vehicle and livestock thefts across Kirinyaga, Nyeri, and Murang’a counties.
The intelligence-led operation was launched after a Toyota Sienta, registration number KCY 467A, vanished without a trace, in a case reported at Kiaruhiu Police Station.
Armed with crucial intel, law enforcement swooped in on the gang’s ringleader, Martin Ndegwa Kinyua, at Kagicha area, as he plotted to meet his partners in crime to sell off the stolen vehicle.
Under interrogation, Ndegwa led detectives to Skuta area in Nyeri, where the stolen Sienta lay camouflaged with fake plates KDJ 765J.
The operation continued with a further ambush, intercepting a getaway vehicle registration number KCS 523H, a Toyota Succeed carrying four of Ndegwa’s accomplices: Bernard Njeru Kimathi, Edwin Muchira Mwinga, Tobias Macharia Mwangi, and James Muthama Muriuki.
A quick search of the vehicle turned up ten sisal ropes, a panga, two knives, a rungu, and a master key, further revealing their criminal intentions.
As detectives delved deeper, they uncovered that, on the same night the gang stole the vehicle, they also stole and slaughtered livestock and sold the meat to shady butchers, fueling a black market that has no regard for the law. It has also been established that the gang is linked to an ongoing stock theft case currently ongoing at the Kerugoya Law Courts.
All the suspects are in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment, as investigations and operations to trail additional accomplices continue.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations remains committed to dismantling organised criminal networks involved in motor vehicle theft, stock theft and other related offences through sustained intelligence-led operations and close collaboration with members of the public.

ARMED SUSPECT INTERCEPTED AFTER ROBBERY ATTEMPT IN JAMHURI, NAIROBI
Sustained security operations and heightened patrols across the Nairobi Region continue to disrupt criminal activities and deny armed gangs the freedom to terrorise members of the public.
Officers have maintained constant surveillance in identified hotspots, responding swiftly to distress calls and working closely with members of the public to confront emerging threats.
It is through this continued pressure on criminal elements that another dangerous robbery mission was foiled in Jamhuri, preventing what could have escalated into a far more tragic incident.
The incident unfolded along the busy CITAM Church Road, an area usually characterised by the movement of traders, worshippers, motorists and pedestrians going about their daily activities.
In the midst of the normal bustle, panic suddenly erupted after reports emerged that two suspects — a rider and his pillion passenger — had launched a robbery spree targeting unsuspecting members of the public.
Acting with speed and coordination, officers on patrol in the area immediately responded to the distress calls. As the suspects attempted to flee the scene, they fired several rounds in an attempt to intimidate both pursuing officers and members of the public.
The pillion passenger was intercepted and apprehended. The rider, however, managed to escape from the scene, prompting an immediate manhunt.
Upon securing the suspect, officers established that the arrested pillion passenger was armed with a homemade pistol. At the scene, they also recovered one spent cartridge and a bullet believed to have been discharged during the escape attempt.
Despite the chaotic scene, in which members of the public bayed for his blood, officers managed to restore order and secure the exhibits linked to the incident.
The incident serves as yet another demonstration of the importance of police-public partnership and public cooperation in confronting violent crime within the city.
Security operations remain active across the Nairobi Region as officers continue to pursue criminal networks that threaten the safety and peace of residents.
The National Police Service remains committed to serving and protecting the public by sustaining operations aimed at combating criminal activities.
Members of the public are encouraged to continue reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via the emergency numbers 999 or 911, or through the #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free line 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
