While coral reefs are in a lot of danger, some are showing signs of recovering. The Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef in the world, has reabsorbed substances and is starting to recover. This is a really good step in the right direction. @jmglbrt#coralreefs

While the environment is hurt by the death of coral reefs, so is the economy. Tourism is planned to decrease with the decrease of coral reefs. @jmglbrt

Tourism plays a huge part in the destruction of the coral reefs. When tourists accidentally touch or break off parts of the reef the corals get stressed. They than try to fight off the ‘intrusion’ which usually leads to coral bleaching.
Coral bleaching occurs when the reefs get stressed causing their primary food source, a microscopic algae, to leave. @jmglbrt#coralbleaching#coralreefs
🌊 The ocean is warming up. 🌊
The ocean absorbs most of the excess heat from greenhouse gas emissions, leading to rising ocean temperatures.
Increasing temperatures affect species and ecosystems, cause coral bleaching and the loss of breeding grounds for marine life.

The loss of the coral reefs color from bleaching occurs because of the change in climate. This will affect business, economy, and tourism as well as a major effects on the environment!

With the continued bleaching of coral reefs the tourism industry is taking a hit. Countries with coral reef industries derive more than half of their national product from them !
