Gold prices retreated after the White House dismissed reports of planned US tariffs on gold bars as “misinformation.” Both 1kg and 100oz bars will stay exempt, easing tensions in the global gold market following a week of uncertainty.
Futures had soared to an all-time high of $3,534 per ounce on Thursday amid the tariff speculation. By Monday, however, prices had eased to €2,885/oz, down from €2,924/oz over the weekend.
The clarification came after at least one major Swiss refiner halted shipments to the US over concerns about a possible 39% tariff. With the matter now seemingly settled, market attention has shifted to tomorrow’s US inflation data. Expectations for a September US rate cut remain strong at 88%, helping keep gold near historic highs.
While volatility is likely to persist, the metal’s long-term outlook remains robust with prices still hovering close to record territory.

The Irish 50 ECU Gold Coin, issued in 1990 is the first gold coin Ireland has released since the pistoles and double pistoles of 1646.
The coin was released to commemorate the Irish Presidency of the the (then) EEC and produced by Pobjoy Mint. The coin itself is 15 grams total at 22-carat, so contains 13.75 grams of fine gold.
One of the rarer gold bullion coins on the market, there were only 5,000 coins originally minted.
The obverse of the coin features a standing Red Deer facing to left, mountains behind, date below.
The Reverse of the coin features the Irish (Gaelic) harp, surrounded by 12 stars with the value of 50 ECU below.

The Paris Olympic Gold medals are made of gold plated silver. The IOC requires gold and silver medals to be made with a minimum of 92.5% pure silver. The first place medals for the Paris 2024 Olympics include six grams of gold plating and weigh 529 grams total, while the silver medals weigh 525 grams.

Each medal also includes an original piece of the Eifel Tower at its center. The original Eiffel Tower iron is formed in a hexagon — the geometrical shape of France herself. This symbol is a reminder of the whole nation’s engagement in delivering an historic Olympic and Paralympic Games. Stripped of its “Eiffel Tower brown” paint, the iron is returned to its original colour. Placed in the centreand imprinted with the emblem of the Paris 2024 Games, this piece of heritage fits perfectly within the gold, silver and bronze core of the medal.
