With eWasp spring queen trapping underway, eWasp has had a record number of spring queens caught in one trap at #jerrabomberrawetlands; 117 in 6 weeks = estimated 468,000 workers, a further 35,100 next generation queens removed from the #naturereserve and surrounding areas.

With spring upon us, communities will put out their eWasp spring queen traps, ensure you only use registered lures or DIY recipes that have no or very little impact on native species.

This nest was located in Queanbeyan, NSW, in February 2024, in a bag of soil.
The nest had an estimated 5,000 wasps. This nest was established in Spring 2023, and as you can see, nests grow large and quickly.
Inspect your garden regularly during the warmer months.

This nest was located in an old unused meat safe in Charnwood, ACT. The nest contained an estimated 3,000 wasps.

The wasps/nest in the video are the Tree brown paper wasp, Ropalidia socialistica, common in Queensland. They are beneficial to the environment, pollinators, and control pest insects. They can be aggressive if disturbed, but if out of high traffic areas, good for the environment.

It is estimated that the nest contained around 2,000 workers wasps. If left untreated, it may have contained an estimated 4,000 worker wasps, an additional estimated 1,000 drones, and 1,000 next generation queens, impacting Kaleen and surrounding areas.
