@405Fan I agree, he’s exactly the kind of player they need and would have a guaranteed role from Day 1. My bet is the Thunder will have to trade up to get ahead of the Warriors for him, but I think it would be worth it.
@daywalker02 It’s kind of a weird thing, for league executives to share what they think another team is going to do. Especially when you should know Presti is pretty unpredictable and likes to be misleading.
All of these reports are always framed from the perspective of what other executives think the Thunder are going to do. Which is very rarely what they actually do. We'll see on this one, but I'll be surprised if they trade up for Mara.
With the top-4 picks considered “out of reach” by rival teams, Michigan's Aday Mara would figure to be a more realistic trade-up target for the Oklahoma City Thunder, per @TheSteinLine.

@okcgeek I don’t think Mara is an effective Wemby counter. I think the best way to address him is with a big, physical wing who can shoot, allowing them to play 5 out and forcing Wemby to cover more ground. OKC is already adding Sorber, I don’t think they need another non-shooting big.
@birdrightsnba Honestly, I don’t really see a sensible trade between these teams. Dort and Wiggins probably don’t move the needle for Houston, DFS doesn’t mode the needle for OKC, the Thunder aren’t trading Ajay or McCain.
It’s going to be so funny when talking heads spend the offseason saying the Thunder need to make huge changes, then all they do is draft a new guy, add Topic and Sorber, and trade Dort. And “analysts” say they didn’t do enough, then they win 60+ games again next season.
@thewarnerwest Surely the Thunder would have to give up a future pick too. I mean, Nikola Jovic is one letter away from Nikola Jokic. The Heat aren’t just going to give that away!
@ThunderFilmRoom The article this is pulled from even says the Cavs reiterated that Mobley isn’t getting traded. This is just an aggregator on the BS that aggregators do.
@salvadoranart If it were me, the choice would be Yaxel. With JWill performing so well this series, I think being able to go 5 out against Wemby is important, and adding Yaxel would allow that while still having physicality and rebounding in the frontcourt.
People immediately jumping to “the Thunder are gonna trade for Giannis” make it so obvious they don’t actually understand the Thunder and just hunger for drama. The most this series will do is affect who OKC targets in the draft.
@salvadoranart It depends on what they think is the best way to counter Wemby. Is it a giant center who can try to combat his length and be physical with him? Then trade up for Aday Mara. Is it a big, versatile wing who can shoot and counter Wemby’s rim protection? Then that’s Yaxel.
This series is the first time I’ve questioned Chet’s future with the Thunder. He simply has to be better, and he has to not play scared against Wemby. Tonight was about as big of a disaster as I could have imagined.
@CoachHuddleston They definitely won’t trade him that fast. But if they Spurs again next year and this happens again, I think it starts being on the table.
