May we live as thankful people today!
"Gratitude and joy drove them to do good works before the thought that they had to do them even crossed their mind."

New article from our latest issue of the Journal of Biblical Counseling. In this article, Whitman considers how the biblical metaphor of exile is useful in counseling people who feel rejected and ostracized. She shows how exile offers a way for counselees to find words for their experiences and see that what they are facing is not outside the Bible’s purview. "Metaphors can build a connection point between God’s Word and his people that can be life-giving amid trials and hardships. Metaphors can deepen our understanding of our situation, of ourselves, and of God."

I’ve been working on something that’s a heartfelt attempt to discuss a longing I think many Christians feel: That strange feeling when the place, people, or rhythms that once felt like home…don’t anymore.
As followers of Jesus, we live in a kind of exile—not in the political or geographic sense, but in an emotional and spiritual one. We feel the disconnect between the world we inhabit and the kingdom we long for.
I often hear people say, “I just love God and people. I don’t need to worry about all the other stuff.”
“All the other stuff” is the way we learn HOW to love God and people.
You can’t love well if you don’t learn well.
This is my new friend. Patrick is from Kenya and has a passion for music and helping those struggling with mental illness. We took a break from our coffee and work long enough to have a real conversation. These kinds of connections take effort, but they are worth the investment!
Ministry leaders, what percentage of your church (including you and the staff) do you think is gifted and equipped for leading well in EITHER learning or community environments?
Ministry leaders, what percentage of your church (including you and the staff) do you think is EQUALLY gifted and equipped for leading well in BOTH learning and community environments?
@coramdeo1@jt_english But consecration doesn’t rhyme with care. 😂
It’s linear, but also expands beyond that. Example: we can pray to become holy in an area of sin, but we should also pray that by God’s grace we remain holy in areas that are not an active struggle. Everyone needs holiness prayer!😊
