Many thanks to @s_peppered of @NiemanLab for her thorough and sensitive reporting on a touchy subject. We need frank conversations about what we mean by “saving local news,” and I hope this is a first step in that direction.
@LibbyApp for the love of God: Let me adjust screen brightness inside the app. No other e-reader app makes me exit the app, open device settings, adjust the brightness, and then return to the app. (Love everything else about Libby.)
Can't make it to Athens for this awesome FREE event? Thanks to the Revada Foundation and the Tyler Weymouth Endowment, you can watch a livestream on Friday or check out the recording anytime from The Post's YouTube channel (https://t.co/yufIf4uLyZ)
This is the first thing that popped up when I opened this app: An ad for a far-right “news outlet.” This, y’all, is why @AthensIndy won’t be posting new content on the platform formerly known as Twitter.
The Athens County Independent will not post new stories on this platform, which has become a dumpster that even Scoop the Opossum can’t handle. For local news you can trust, follow us on Facebook and Instagram and subscribe for free at https://t.co/V7YVxJ3Jc1. Bye, y’all!
Evan Smith, previous TT CEO, is a journalist. Shah is an economist who worked at Goldman Sachs and the Treasury Department. Over 13 years, Smith built a journalism powerhouse. In <1 year, Shah gutted it. A tough day for the Tribune?? Try a tough day for news.
If you’re reading/hearing about Caden Cox’s lawsuit against Hocking College in the national media, props belong to @sheridan120 and @DispatchAlerts for breaking the story.
And when all the content creators disappear because they can’t get revenue from readers and advertisers (or from Google), where will Google’s AI find content to summarize? https://t.co/8Rl6Couvgd

Parenting while poor is NOT A CRIME. “Believe survivors” means investigating allegations thoroughly—not just accepting them without question. Outstanding, terrifying reporting by David Forster and Theo Peck-Suzuki of @woubnews.
Children Services took a mother's kids after her teenage son reported her.
Much of what he said was never proven.
But that didn't seem to matter.
WOUB News followed the case for this special project, "150 days."

Billionaires are not going to save local news. The only way to restore local news is for *local people* to own, staff and fund it. (Billionaires, give 💰💰 to @NewsMatch to support matching 💰 for independent nonprofit newsrooms!) https://t.co/jRsSFnIOvQ
@megataros No advice, just support. I've lived with major depression all my adult life and I know that bleakness all too well. I hope you find the services you need. DM me anytime, I mean it. ((hugs))
@classickath points out another way that @TheAthensNEWS’ coverage fails the ethics smell test: Manipulative use of images that obscures the reality of an event. J-school profs everywhere should use this edition to demonstrate how *not* to do news.
Athens News equating trans rights activists and TERFs and obscuring the fact that the 4 protesters in the bottom picture were the ONLY 4 TERFs that showed up for that side.
